Dear Zinda Reader,
First, I would like to thank you for your emails and telephone calls to our office in Washington expressing your support and concern for the delayed publication of our magazine. Your words and thoughts have been helping us through these difficult times.
In the face of these extraordinary economic times - as with many other online and print publications - ZINDA is faced with the difficult challenge of operating its business due to lack of sufficient funds. For the first time since its inception, our corporate sponsor - Zinda Corporation (www.zinda.com) - is unable to overcome the negative forces of the marketplace and provide us with sufficient funding to continue our online presence. Hence, we have decided to temporarily halt our operation.
Ironically, this week is also the 15th Anniversary of Zinda Magazine. ZINDA, a freely available online magazine, was first published in February 1995. It was first released via email to less than a few readers. Today, over 30,000 readers enjoy reading the familiar Zinda columns in 62 countries.
We believe that our current financial dilemma is temporary and as soon as our finances improve, we will once again return to the Internet and continue serving you with greater determination. In the meantime, we are considering several other options and new models of financing for our publication, from collecting voluntary and/or mandatory subscriptions to aggressive solicitation of advertisements and worldwide fundraising drives.
We will keep our website at zindamagazine.com running so that you may continue to enjoy our past issues and the calendar of events.
You have been an active and loyal participant in the growth of Zinda Magazine in the last 15 years. We owe a debt of thanks for your encouragement and support and will do our best to return soon and engage you in the affairs of the Assyrian communities around the world.
Finally, I thank our zCrew- the technical team in California and reporters in the U.S., Australia, Europe, and the Middle East - for their incredible dedication to ZINDA. As I noted in a separate private email, this is not a farewell - but a brief parting.
