WOW, did I read the score right? I was so sleepy when I woke to to check the score , my eyes could barely open and had to look at the score for a few seconds to confirm what I was reading.

Couple of thoughts about this lose

- this should be a huge wake up call for Brazil. As we know, if Argentina can lose to arguably the worst team in the tournament, then Brazil can surely lose to a top 10 team in Serbia. That is why, as much as I am enjoying this shocker inside, I will try and not laugh at it publicly.

-this is also a huge wake up call for Argentina. Yes they have to win both of their next two games and I expect them to, but they would surely rather lose now and break their long win streak than to lose when it really matters later. Spain went through this and lost their opener in 2010, but ended up going all the way. Hope I am wrong on this.

-while this will add pressure to Argentina to win, it will also remove the favourite label from them. So it will both help and hurt them.

-having seen them lose, all other three teams in the group can suddenly dream that they can qualify to the second round and that one of the spots doesn’t have to go to Argentina. Imagine if Mexico beats Poland and they go on to beat or even toe Argentina, then it is virtually over for Argentina.

Several things here. Saudi Arabia deserved their win. They were the better team. Along with Japan (who have just beaten the Germans), they were in the same qualifying group as Australia. The fact that these 2 teams won games against highly fancied opponents kind of justifies why Australia looked so weak in qualifying.

Spain lost their opening match of 2010 and went on to win the 2010 World Cup. it is not over for Argentina. In fact, it may be a blessing in disguise as coming 2nd in their group will mean they will be on the easier side of the draw.

As for Brazil, they need to make sure they are up against it against the Serbs. Serbs are stronger than the Japanese and Saudis, so Brazil must be on their game. Perhaps a blessing that they start their campaign later than everyone else.
