Winter vs. Summer Olympics : I may have finally made up my mind!

For the longest time — ever since I started watching them both closely — I’ve never been able to decide which I enjoy more: the Winter or the Summer Olympics.

It always depended on the moment.

If I was watching the Winter Olympic Games, I’d tell you they’re more exciting. Faster. More intense.

If you asked me during the Summer Olympic Games, I’d say the exact same thing about them.

But I think I’ve finally figured out the difference.

The Winter Olympics are about speed and survival.Blink and you miss it. One mistake and you’re out. It’s edge-of-control athleticism — racing gravity, ice, and time.

The Summer Olympics are about history and identity. They carry generational weight. World records that define eras. Medal tables that feel geopolitical. Moments that become part of a nation’s story.

One thrills you.
The other moves you.

Of course, there’s overlap. Curling isn’t as explosive as the 100m final. And not every summer sport carries the same historical weight as hockey does in winter. But broadly speaking, winter feels sharper and more adrenaline-driven, while summer feels larger and more symbolic.

Right now? I’m leaning winter8FF04C0E-1F39-47A4-B145-B88A9A436539.png

It must be the coverage because in Australia, since I was a kid, they show nothing but figure skating. Summer Olympics of course these days are about drug cheats, so I don't pay attention to that either anymore.
