I've recently posted a topic in the History Politcs forum about returning to Nineveh for Christmas ("Christmas in Nineveh"). I'm just out to see what the general bodies opinion is on this. You can read the post made in History/Politics.

Quiet simply, a small group of Assyrians would go back to Nineveh to help with the rebuilding but above all, act like a moral boost for those people. The tasks would be small. Security would be of upmost concern (pls read the post to know what I'm talking about).

We all talk like we're Assyrian and we're proud, but how many would risk their lives to help those that live in Assyria and die in Assyria?

Just a pole to gauge interest. MOD's pls keep this here to get as much attention...thx :bigarmhug:

Riza I am down if we can get the AVN community to support our efforts in doing so.  It can be an AVN delegation that goes there, with the necessary funds and resources to aid our people.  They don't need the KDP who is trying to win the hearts of Assyrians, they need their own people.  We have the technology and hopefully $$ to make this happen.  I'm down khon.

I would love to take part in some sort of summer program, where I would be able to take the kids with me so they can see their roots.  I don't know how much of a help we would actually be; my goal would be more to expose the young people in diaspora to the plight of their people back home.

If it really has a point and our ppl live there I would do it.
But i wouldn't do it if the Kurds, Turks etc would live there as well. And they would benefit from the things we build up because they destroyed it a long time ago.

A lot of our ppl from Turkey have build hotels and stuff but not for their own ppl because there arent many Assyrians left in Turkey. All these houses are build and nobody wants to live there because of the Turks etc. And the Turks are happy because we build houses and stuff on their property and they can benefit from it.

And what is the purpose of building houses on a land which isnt ours? I think it is a good idea but to me it isn't really something realistic.

I remember reading about his awhile back.  Those involved had a Kevin Costner/Field of Dreams vision of "build it and they will come."  Unfortunately, it didn't happen that way; there was no incentive for our people to return with the Turkish government has done nothing but paid lip service concerning our rights and protections.  I don't think that's the case here; IF this were to occur, it would be to rebuild/remodel existing villages where our people reside.

Fair enough. So what you're saying is, if everything is planned and we gave you a date of when it would be, you'd free up your schedual to make it happen?

I dont have a problem with the schedual.........My? problem is money :blush2:...i dont like going there with an empty pockets...

Hmmmzzzzzz difficult I will be honest.....

It depends.....going now alone? No..not without my family...it's too dangerous.

but you know, I don't think you can only be a proud Assyrian when you do work in our homecountry, you can do also a lot of good work in these countries.... :)

Thats exactly right BraTeiL! Like I say, you can't really say you're a proud Assyrian if you dont do anything to be proud of. Like I was saying in the posts, security is a huge concern of mine. I dont want to have on my mind for the rest of my life that I organized a trip to Iraq and I came home less a few people. I couldn't live with myself if that happened.

Candel. Money is not an issue. We're not going there to "party"....lol.....We're going to HELP the people of Nineveh. So unless you're up for some labour ;) then this isn't the trip for you.
