Can we give the World Cup to Argentina already? Why even bother play? It is like they have now became the default favourites. Let me explain:
-I have one of those satellite boxes that allow you to watch different channels from around the world, including all BEIN sports packages , specifically the Arabic ones. With the tournament being in Qatar and BEINSports owned by Qatar, you can imagine the non-stop coverage. In their interviews and analysis, it is like a foregone conclusion that Argentina will win it. They even interview Argentina fans in Qatar and why Argentina should be the favourites etc.
-in addition to TV, if you go on social media, including by some reputable websites and accounts, most fans want Messi to win it, and by extending Argentina.
Honestly, I don’t remember a World Cup was such a clear favourite. At least based on WHO people want to win it and not necessarily who is the best.
This bring me to a point I have often made in the past: if you compare Messi vs. Neymar, the former has been one of the nicest and classiest players out there, so he gets fans on his side. And while Neymar is no stranger to having a lot of fans of course, he is very polarizing figure and probably has as many haters as he does fans. And as we all know, over the years that has by extension translated into Brazil not being as traditionally loved as they always have.
