What do you read into CR7 missing a crucial penalty during regular time yesterday, or do you read anything at all into it?Reason I ask is because this has been blown into a full crisis mode by some. Can’t imagine what would have happened if he ended up missing the second one or if Portugal lost (even if he did score his penalty on the shootout)Of course, like everything these days and the last 15 years of more, it all done in the prism or context of the whole Messi vs. CR7 and by extension and more importantly, Barcelona vs. Real Madrid.
Speaking of which, this is game 4 and CR7 is yet to score a goal in this tournament. And while he is a shade of the former player and barely posing any real threat, I actually do want his record of scoring in 10 straight tournaments to keep going (this would be his 11th). But ironically, even if when it looked like a penalty kick is his only way to score a goal here and keep this fragile streak going, he missed.
To me at least, his crying wasn’t just because he missed a crucial chance to take his team to the next round, but also for blowing a huge chance to keep this streak alive. Portugal plays France next and from what I can tell, France’s is neither solid nor is it a walk in the park. So if he found it hard to score yesterday, he will likely have less chances against France. BTW , I read a crazy stat that Ronaldo is yet to score a free kick goal at the Euros, despite this being his 6th edition and having already taken some 30+ attempts or so. Who would have thought?
