Why Censorship for Church issues

Why AVN conducts censorship when it comes to the most important issue of our lifetime. As a nation we don't have a place to vent out our frustration. AVN is one of this avenue where we can discuss issues similar to this.

Living in North America, I have come to the realization that they let you talk and vent. On the other hand we don't. From young age we were told to shutup by our parents, elders, educated people, clergies and even relatives.

I think AVN should stop locking up these discussion, supervise it and keep it professional I agree but not lock it.

This was a major issue a while back and I know the decision by the administrators regarding this was not easy.  There was a church section devoted solely to this topic.  However, things became so heated, personal and offensive that it was decided that the forum needed to be closed.  Initially, I was one of those who was against closing it; like you, I thought AVN offered a neutral place where this topic could be disucssed at least semi-civily.  However, I'm quite happy with the decision now.  This issue looks like it's going to drag on for years; nothing we say here will solve anything.  Aside from creating bad feelings among members, no good came out of it; neither side was able to convince the other of anything.  It also attracted "provokers" from both sides that contributed nothing except to fan the flames.

I believe we can still post on this topic somewhat in the Religion Forum, where it belongs.

Closing that section on avn was the best decision made it burns me to my core watching my brothers fight each other.
Personally I don?t care about the church issue, i don?t care about a few buildings in USA where i will never see and I?m guessing our people in Atra don?t care about this issue either. The people of that church will always be able to attend church no matter who wins the church case. Loser = Assyrians Winner = Lawyers.

Maybe if people here acted like mature adults rather than 2 year olds by constantly insulting one another, insulting Mar Dinkha, Mar Bawai etc... the church section would still be open..

I barely posted in there, but i read everything, and half of the crap i read in there just made me sick..

At least now, without that forum, theres no more fighting

Notice how a bunch of people dont post anymore.. why?!  cuz they wont have the joy of arguing for hours and hours

I actually agree with you, and have felt this way from the start of this situation.

While I thought that a break (temporarily close of the Assyrian Churches section) might be good for a while, the idea that we, as members, are limited in what we can discuss is extremely difficult for me. It seriously pains me to lock threads regarding this issue, especially when they are respectful as yours was, but currently, this is what the administration requires.

Either way, these types of topics don't belong in the forum section I moderate, but it does seem like a part of our "voice" here at AVN has been stifled in a way, so I totally understand your points. Also, I want to thank you for taking the time to express your concerns for the site in a calm and sincere way; it is very much appreciated.

I honestly didnt like the fact that the section was closed in the very beggining, because back when everything was so fresh, it was a way to vent out all my frustrations about the current issues...But now I am so glad that the section is closed...Now that I've actually grown to be immune to the situation...I know exactly how to handle my frustrations.

It would be nice to discuss and debate the current issues of our omta and eta in a mature fashion, but with all the growing animosity that some people have, due to indifferences...it wont happen. So I would much rather not see anybody argue and fight over something that is out of our control.

Khayee, she was being serious with what she said, not disrespectful. I already knew that when I read what she wrote, which is why I didn't warn her or make a comment, but now that I read it again (because of your above post), I'm thinking you thought she was being sardonic about it, and I personally asked her just to make sure my initial take on it was correct, and she assured me that she was being totally serious. But, like I said, it's a Church matter so it still doesn't belong in that thread or forum section.

who was? im just saying in general.

Omgosh atin! The link you posted (above) isn't for the general thread; it goes directly to one reply, and I thought you meant that what Waleeta said reminded you of the volatile Assyrian Churches section!

Oh goodness, nevermind, I am losing my mookha I swear!

The first time I clicked on the link you posted, it went straight to Waleeta's post, so that's why I thought you meant her! I'm sorry!  :blush2:

Kharap doonyeh man, I'm going on strike.

I said "losing" and losing is right!  :ranting:

"Loose" is what you are, "lose" is what I usually do at a casino. Don't make me lose it even more, I almost got confused again.

Jhareh ana... :sadangel:

nah im not there are plenty of hotels to smash up here in Australia.

I know this is  :eek:fftopic:, but the hotel in Chicago last year was delighted with the convention and sent a letter inviting us back - I saw the letter to the AANF myself.  The damage caused was apparently normal for having thousands of people in your hotel in a 4 day period, and apparently a lot less than they expected would be normal for a convention that size.

It was closed because akhnan lekh pislet civilised discussion, many of our people are incapable of respecting others, they're arrogant which is driven by their ignorance and immaturity, they're aggressive, disrespectful, and to prevent them from typing their rants is doing the world a huge favour.

Apart from the issues that have been raised, the fact remains that not much has changed since that section was closed down.  If it was still around, the same arguements would have been repeated over and over again.  The only real event was the postponment of a court case and you can imagine how both sides would have accused the other for the reasons behind it.

However, I disagree about how some people no longer post on this website because they are trouble makers.  People are not going to post in topics which are of no interest to them.  That section was also responsible for many of them joining the website in the first place.  Now that it has gone, they have also gone.
