Whispering (but not really)

Do other people do this, or is it just my nutty family?!   They have this annoying habit of trying to say something "quietly" so others won't hear, but they never actually manage to pull it off!

Example:  we were at this restaurant with a bunch of relatives this past weekend.  Our waitress, who was really sweet, kinda looks Assyrian.  So here is my aunt's conversation with my cousins and I as the waitress was serving our table:

Aunt:  bikhshawitoon Sooretela? (do you think she's Assyrian?)
Us:  Maybe....I dunno know......I guess she could be......who knows/cares?
Aunt: bala Sooretela, khzee nakheero kmeleh goora (I swear she's Assyrian, look how big her nose is!)
Us:  khaltee, she's right here!! :eek:hmy:

They do this all the time.  One of them will say something about someone else to me, while that someone else is like two feet away, and I just sit there pointing, "SSSSHHHHH!!!!"  :bangin:

My Mother!!! ALL THE TIME!!

I'm always like " MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" or i'm blaqa aynee

I dont think Assyrians know how to talk quietly period. You should hear my Dad on the phone.

LOL.

My mother in law have embaressed me so many times in Arabic Grocery Stores.  You know they are small stores, yaany they could hear and see your every move!  Mind you, she does this to every item in the store!

Her:  Aya tamata b kmeleh? (how much does tomatoe cost?)
Me: $2 a lb.
Her: 7eeeeeeeeel!! *she says that really loud* AY qitma go rashay, treh dolareh ta daya tamata khroota!!! rkhosh, rkhosh.. lagbokh la! (omg $2 for this rotten tomatoes - move move, we dont want it!)
Me: Makhtay qalakh, holeh abol store zkhaya elakh!   (keep it down, the store manager is staring at you!)

I leave the store as soon as I can and Never again shopped with her.

haha, nobody is worse than my dad. We literally get people asking if he is fighting with someone over the phone.

Yeah...I hear my mum coming from miles out....so when she whispers, it's like talking accross the room!

:giggle: I remember when my mother-in-law came for her first visit from overseas.  Her and my husband stayed up talking -- loudly -- late into the night.  Finally at about 2:00 in the morning I walked into the family room where they were sitting on the couch and said, "why are you two screaming, you're right next to each other!"  They just gave me this look like  were we loud?

thank god my mom is not like that. but my step dad oh my GOD some one kill me please.

B i feel u, my nana is like that the person will be next to her and she'll say something about them its so eba  :ban:

My mom doesn't know what whispering means...so when she has something to say about anyone passing by she thinks by enunciating(sp) her sentence they wont be able to hear.
