What's in a Name

I wanted to know if anyone has heard the name Ala'a Mansour before, and what Ala'a could mean other than the name of the Creator. As a Chaldean, this guy is apparently Chaldean but I have never heard this name before. Also, what on Earth does Loya, I asked and someone told me "Comrade" is the definition of Loya. Is this correct transliteration?

Not sure of the origin of the name Ala'a, but I know some people use it as a shorter term for Aladdin.  And yes, looya can mean comrade or soldier.  It gets thrown around a lot these days, but really should be reserved for those who have taken up arms or done something significant enough to warrant that title.

I learned what "Looya" meant from Call of Duty 4 (in one of the online levels, you can hear your teammates saying "qoombaleh looya!") and when my dad heard it, he told me it meant "comrade." So, I'm guessing that's the correct translation.

A'laa' is derived from the verb meaning "elevate", although the name is Arabic but the verb 'le ('en-lamath-yoth) means to "elevate, raise, or exalt" in Assyrian as well.

Ala'a' Mansour, is the head of the Assyrian Democratic Movement in the US and Canada (North American branch).  He is Telkefnaya, and thus a member or the Chaldean Church.

As Baklawa and Ashuriena suggested Loya means "comrade".

This was what shocked me, this guy's technically from my village but I've never heard the name. I knew it was obviously Arabic, but I had never heard a man named Ala'a.
