***UPDATE OCT 3/07: MAJORITY OF NORTH AMERICAN ADO MEMBERS RESIGN***

Wow! Just got word guys that most of the members of ADO in North America all resigned together. When I spoke to my dad, he declined to tell me why they all resigned.

Any info?

I'm just as curious.  VERY VERY strange.  Maybe they're protesting ADO policy in Syria?  Just a thought.

What the heck happened?!  I'll try to find out from here, but doubt I'll get much.  Any Euros around here who may have more info?

Yeah. No clue whats going on. My dad wont speak...lol

But I do know this, my dad was one of the early members of ADO. He went to jail and tortured for ADO. He fled his homeland for ADO. Even in Canada, he still fully backed and worked hard for the ADO.

For him to resign after being involved with it for well over 30 years, I dunno! Something is really fishy!

I also know my dad and Bashir (current ADO leader) were good friends and were members at the same time when they were in Syria. So I dunno whats going on there.

I just got some information,

I think it has to do with the newly formed party in Syria, I think it is called the Assyrian Democratic Rally (correct me if I am wrong). The leader of this party is named Mr. Solamin Yousif, and a lot of people who were ADO members feel that this party represents the Assyrian agenda better in Syria as appose to the current leadership of ADO.

This is fresh news, as in like 30 seconds ago, if someone has more information please add.

I'm not discrediting what you said, but that doesn't make any sense (as if anything in Assyrian politics does  :shades:).  But my point is, how and/or why, would lifelong members (like Riza's dad) leave ADO for a party that is just a baby and has yet to prove itself.  Also, Riza said that North American members resigned and didn't say anything about the members in Syria.

Yeah see I don't think thats the reason. When my dad was in Syria, Sleaman Yousif and the other former ADO members that now compose ADR, met with my dad to seek his advice/input. I know my dad wasn't too pleased about the idea of breaking away and forming a new entity. So I really don't think this is the reason.

However, its also not too far out of reality. The members of ADR were also long serving and proud members of ADO. Many of which were also jailed. In fact, I don't think the Syrian Government has given Sleaman Yousif his passport yet. They took it away from him a while ago.

Ok, I vaguely recall a schism in the ADO a year or two ago that pitted Sulaiman Yousif and Bashir Saadi against each other.  Are current ADO members now siding with Sulaiman's new group?

....AND THE CRAP...I MEAN THE BEAT GOES ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. My pops is no longer ADO.

-------

Sorry guys its nearly 2am here and I got class at 8 tomorrow so I'm gonna get some sleep. I'll be checking in the morning to see whats transpired.

Regards.

I dont think this should of posted in a public forum. Our enemies will feed of this, if they already did not have a hand in this division.

However, I dont think that this is a big blow to ADO, since the north american chapter is not as active.

Honestly blockness....we have so many things our "enemies" can use against us, this really is insignificant in that point of view. But its significant in that although they were not as active as Zowaa is in North America, they still contributed a lot to the Assyrian community through online articles as well as lectures and seminars.

I know from my personal experience, my dad would write a lot of article for ADO and would also attend and show his support, as well as ADO's, to various Assyrian activities and rallies in the Toronto area. To me, its always significant when a large group of members who have been active for over 30 years all of a sudden decide to leave.

-------------

On a speculative note, I think I may have figured it out.

This is all speculative and from personal experience by the way...

I think Bashir is the worst leader any organization can have. I also strongly believe he's tied in with Ba'ath in some form. Why do I believe this? Very reason why we live in Canada. When the ADO members were arrested, upon their release, they were told they had to become informants to the government and report back any information they can on the Assyrians. I think Bashir has kissed a lot of ass and so is helped in many ways (yes including financially) to retain his "leadership" role of the ADO. My dad refused to be a snitch and so he ran away to avoid it because he knew if he didn't snitch, he'd be back in jail so fast!

Bashir thought, I personally don't like this man. He has no public speaking abilities. He bored me to sleep during the ADO conference in Sweden. He has no respect for others. He looks really high upon himself. Walks with a strut. Just a very very poor and selfish leader if you ask me. I also think he has tarnished and ruin the once strong and great name of the ADO! Luckily, just like Zowaa, they still have very passionate and dedicated members who are still able to retain the great name and to continue the work for its people.

But enough said. I'm just glad I'm not affiliated with any political party. And now that my dads out, you guys wont automatically assume I'm ADO :p

I think ADO is bigger than one person.  Riza, you would know better than I, but if what you say is true, and knowing the characteristics of many ADO members, why did they not wrestle control from Saadi, rather than resign and weaken what is really a great organization?

I'm going to have to go back and re-read some articles/interviews of Sulaiman Yousif.  If memory serves me right, I don't recall having a very positive impression of him, and if ADO members are joining with him.........geez.
