Today I witnessed history! But before I tell you what happened, let me give you a bit of history…
19 years ago, in April 2007 to be exact, I attended my first professional soccer game. It happened to be Toronto FC’s very first game. Few weeks later, i attended their second game and that was it. I never made it to any TFC or MLS game for that matter. In fact, in this stretch, I attended only 2 professional soccer games if my memory serves me correct, including a 2013 friendly between Brazil and Chile here in Toronto.
Fast forward to this week, where we are in Florida for a cruise vacation out of Fort Lauderdale. Yesterday, I got a text from my brother telling me about an Inter Miami game that was scheduled for Saturday - one day before our cruise- and to take my kids to see it. Not only was that a great and timely reminder, I also remembered my coworker telling me that he would be here in Fort Lauderdale around the same time and that he had bought tickets to attend this very game with family.
Right away I checked Stubhub and to my shock, unlike games in my hometown of Toronto, the tickets were very affordable so I bought right away.
Well, needless to say, we not only got to see Messi play, it was a game for the ages! Messi scored 4 goals in a 7-1 demolition of Montreal Impact. Not just that, but i ended
Up recording Messi’s 7th goal which was a free kick which sealed the game. In addition to Messi scoring, I got to see both Casemiro and Suarez scoring.
It was such a historic game that I kept telling my family and my brother and coworker - sitting very close to our section - that we are so luckily to have witnessed not just Messi and other legends play, but see them win ok such a dominating fashion including the 4 goals from Messi. That is rare even for Messi’s standards.
After the game ended, my wife bought my two kids and herself a Messi jersey and was going to buy me one too, but if you guys know me well, you know well if that was a success or not…
