Just read breaking news from Alqosh, Iraq, where Zowaa waa holding its bi-annual conference and general elections, that after 23 years at the helm, Younadam Kanna has been replaced by Yacoob Gewargis as the new secretary of the Assyrian Democratic Movement.
A lot of those who had grown tired of Zowaa recently or even quit, had cited this as the reason for their displeasure. That Mr. Kanna had at the position for too long and that he should give the chance to someone else.
The new secretary is no stranger to Zowaa and is arguably its most most experienced member after the ex leader, having risen through the ranks since his early days in the early 90s as one of the founding members of its youth and student movement.
Wish Mr. Yacoo the best in this new challenge and hope he is able to take Zowaa to the next level and does what it takes to bring some of the former members back. This includes reuniting those who have left to become their own party under ‘Sons of Mesopotamia’ (ابناء النهرين)
