Tension rising between two rival Kurdish tribes over one man!

According to this article (Arabic) , some 3,000 men, most of whom are armed, have surrounded a court in Dohuk demanding that they hand over a man accused of killing someone from their tribe.

The men belong to the 'Zeybari' tribe, while the accused is from a rival tribe (Doski) and there is fear this could escalate into a full blown war between the two tribes. Amongst those surrounding the court is a cousin of Barazani. The head of the tribe has asked for his men not to resort to any violence (for now) so long as the court agrees to hand over the man so they can deal with him themselves. In other words, they want to serve their own justice and not the state.

Yep, this is what you call a society of lawlessness and tribalism, much like they were 100 and 200 years ago. Not much has changed.... sounds a lot like ISIS, doesn't it?

Now imagine these Kurdish tribes fighting it out against Arab tribes over control of areas around Mosul and Kirkuk: that would make all the events of the last 13 years in Iraq like a walk in the park. If they can be so tribal in dealing with their own Kurds, imagine how they would deal with other non Kurdish tribes?

Just Kurds being undemocratic and despotic. Nothing new.

not Exactly, The Zebaris have always been an aggressive tribe. Assyrians in Nahla have always had to deal with them.

It seems like Kurdistan has become like India with a caste system and the Zebaris are some warrior class or something.

As far as I know, the majority of the KRG Peshmerga is Zebari-Barzani relatives.

As long as this conflict has no negative implications for the Assyrians, I don't really mind.

it actually does have negative implications for us in a wider sense... If the Zebari Kurds can do whatever they want and act above the established law, then what's going to stop them from doing this kind of stuff to Assyrians? They could met out mob justice against us just for practicing self-defense and they'll spin it as murder just to keep their hierarchy.

Secondly, what if the Zebaris have an internal clan conflict? Who would be considered above the law then?

In fact, a similar situation happened to an Assyrian guy decades back. Two Kurdish men were threatening him and he killed one in self-defense. The surviving Kurd ran to his tribesmen and told them what happened and his clan formed a lynch mob looking for him.

The Assyrian guy ran and went into hiding until his parents stupidly convinced him to turn himself in; as soon as he turned himself in, the police handed him right to the tribe and they executed him...

This happened only to one Assyrian guy (as far as I'm aware of) but you can see the problem here already...

That's f u cked up.

If the Zebari Kurds try do anything to the Assyrians, they will get so much backlash from the west (Since the west is starting to become right-wing and very Anti-Islam) this will hurt the reputation of the Kurds being the 'peaceful Muslims'.

I would agree that individual people are less afraid to speak out about being anti-Islam, but I wouldn't say the west is becoming right-wing and very anti-Islam. I live in the US and I still see a lot of people on Facebook who post stuff like "Love Trumps Hate" and that "Muslims are no more violent than Christians." Yeah it angers me a lot. Unfortunately there are still many people in the west who still hold very idealized views of the world and do not want to face reality that Islamic fundamentalism is indeed a very real and very dangerous concept.

Those are liberals you're talking about, there's alot more conservatives then liberals. Liberals tend to congregate in big cities so it does seem like there's alot of them.

Ideologically, they're imploding; black lives matter has just labeled Justin Trudeau as a White Supremacist which is random but funny.

And they went and took him out of custody and beat him up and killed him. Cowards.
