Strange Question

Do Assyrians/Chaldeans practice circumcision? I have been asking a lot but had trouble receiving the same answer twice in a row.

Some of the men in our family are, others are not.  We had it done for our son, mainly because my husband wanted it for health reasons.  As far as I know, there are no religious/cultural traditions associated with us when it comes to this.

Ok, I had gotten into an argument with someone over whether we do do or not. Because of the nature of this question, it is not visible (pardon the pun) to know whether you are saying the right answer. Also, one is kind of embarrassed to ask every Chaldean at the local atar where their son's **** is chopped. Any answer would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Well I know in my family we havent ( dont ask how i know ) however my mother's chaldean side of the family do

Its an old assyrian tradition, before we became christians. So it is assyrian, but only some practice it, of health reasons or they think it is better. not for other reason.

We don't have any traditions regarding circumcision. Some do, some don't; it's all the parents' personal choice. My parents didn't have my brothers circumcised.

With christianity they deleted it. But it isnt against christianity, and it was a semitic tradition.

no it wasn't....Jews, Egyptians, and some others had the tradition but not Assyrians or Babylonians. Anyway, most people here do it for health reasons and it has nothing to do with religion or traditions anymore.

so is it good to have it done?? i'm only asking because if i have a son what do i do. i know most americans have it done to their baby boys

This is the exact question I have.

I don't think its a common practice amongst Assyrians, although I know that both of my brothers were circumcised.
It's a very painful procedure! Witnessed it a couple of times & there was no lidocaine or any other form of anesthetic being used & boy did those little guys scream their lungs out. The worst is when you?re trying to change the gauze dressing that gets wrapped around their little peepees afterwards & you get one that has dried in its place.
