This would make a great Christmas gift.

In Spirit of UNESCOs proclamation of 2008 as the year of languages the AAS has partnered with Iraqi Nineveh Plains major towns on the Sponsor a Street Sign project.

Now you can sponsor the fabrication and installation of a street sign in one or more of the major towns with both Arabic and Aramaic. Your contribution will have a long lasting impact on the promotion of Assyrian Aramaic language and culture. Once your $100 tax deductible donation is received a certificate will be sent to you acknowledging your sponsorship and the street name you contributed towards.  This drive will end by January 2009, so do not delay. Take part of this historical task.

If you prefer to make your donation by phone, then call our Toll free number at 1-800-355-7228 and leave a message.  We will be happy to get back to you asap.  Otherwise, please use the link below:

Question!

Do you get to pick the street name or is it just assigned?

Good question.  I don't know!

Edit:  Ok, I just asked, and no, we don't get to choose the name, it's assigned.  Still, a great opportunity to buy a street name in atra

wow.

100$ donation for one Street Sign ??

Signs cost money...  Plus, you need more than one sign for one street (one at every block).  I think it's a great idea.

Dude this is a brilliant idea. This will not only preserve our language in Atra but will also proclaim assyrian as one of the nationl languages.

Because they understand that they will need to have a lot of signs....  They're not looking for money just to fabricate a few signs.  We can only hope that these signs are made locally.

sry, maybe im stupid.. but i dont understand again
can you explain me, details etc....
..i have to understand, i want to promote it in german too, but if i dont understand everything, i cant explain in german too  :blush2:

why they need for one signs a lot of money?
licence?! or what? and how much signs we can produce??
and is it 100% that with the donated money they put this signs in the towns?
and and and and....  :blush2:

Sanhoxx, please contact the Assyrian Academic Society by e-mailing them at info@aas.net and maybe they can explain the details further.  I'm sure they would be glad to have this information spread in Germany and throughout Europe  :)

Hi Sanho,

The money is a donation to the Assyrian Academic Society, which has worked directly and exclusively with representatives and workers within the Nineveh Plains to promote and sponsor this project. When you donate, you help us continue our efforts.

These streets already have "names," but many, many of them do not have signs. New signs will be made, featuring the street name in Assyrian and Arabic. This truly is historic. Can you imagine contributing to something that signifies such an important presence of our people within this region? It is quite exciting and precisely why hundreds of people have already participated and donated.

For more information, please visit our website: www.aas.net and subscribe to our email list. Thank you very much for your interest!

UPDATE:

Due to the success of the drive, and the amount of interest it has gained, the deadline for sponsorship has been extended until Kha b'Nissan (April 1, 2009.)

$3,500 has already been sent to Sami Estefo at the Nineveh Center for Research and Development in Baghdeda to start this project, so keep your donations coming!

I just absolutely love this picture and the others of these signs. They are simply marvelous!
