Should I feel Guilty for liking Turkish music?  I mean I mainly like it because a lot of it sounds like Assyrian music...but my older brother makes me feel so guilty for listening to Turkish music because of their violent history towards Assyrians....(he jokingly calls me a traitor), but sometimes I think to myself and say, "Am I a traitor for listening to Turkish music?"  I can't help it, it's very lovely, and the vocals are beautiful (they have that tear drop in the throat kind of sound)...I don't know if whether I should stop or keep listening???????  :wallbash: :unsure: :unsure:
 
Umm No.

We Assyrians have to get over this. Otherwise we wouldnt like anyone because they have hurt us sometime during our history.
 
Music is art, and art is not bound by people, countries, races, cultures or wars....it's an international language that can be used by all!
 
I don't think you should feel guilty. Your brother's just trying to push your buttons.

I'd listen to it...I'd just never buy it so I wouldn't feel guilty for financially supporting them. :giggle: Kidding.

Listen to whatever you want. Music is music. I agree with Knight on this one.

If that's a reason for you to feel guilty, then almost every Assyrian should feel guilty for listening to Arabic and Farsi, too. It's not like we've had a pleasant history with them either.
 
I dont like the language, but the songs are catchy...GO AHEAD! LISTEN TO THEM! KNOCK YOUR SELF OUT!!  :clap:

musically: quarter tunes comes from Turkish Music (Ottoman) and is interduced to us by them,
thats why singers from the northern Iraq-Syria regions like Janan Sawa and the Jindo family and
some others,, have based their melodies on these Quarter tunes,, its called Maqam Bayat..

singers from Baghdad-Kirkuk and Iran (except S. Gabriel) dont sing with quarter tunes,
because it's harder for them..

That's really interesting. I didn't know that. I mean, I noticed the difference, but I never put two and two together and I definitely didn't know what it was called.
 
Are you kidding me!

Turkish is a beautiful language and they have great music!  Maybe thats just me, I love every kind of music and don't care what language it is.

I always listen to Greek, Arabic, Turkish, Indian, English, Assyrian...  :2hearts:

Yes, you should feel very guilty for listening to Turkish music, shame on you.

This is of course not my opinion, it's Ultoma, I'm just saving him the trip cause I know if he sees this, he will rip you apart.
 
I think the turkish language is actually very nice and delicate. Not the turmany one from Iraq thats rougher.

No one can judge another Assyrian for refusing to listen to Turkish, Arabic, Kurdish, or Persian Music.
 
I have very much problems with listening to turkish music....BECAUSE of the genocide  :blush2:

I hate the language the msuic and verything...but the country is very nice....i have been there once for a holiday and it was super...but now i dont know if I would do it again....a holiday to turkey...thats ya3nie against my principles... :blink:
 
I don't really see why you should feel ashamed for recognizing good music. Turkish for me, is one of the most beautiful sounding languages in music(after Arabic & Assyrian). It sounds so soulful & touching. I don?t think I could ever listen to a Turkish folk song & not feel some great emotion. Besides, aren?t some Assyrian musicians known to have borrowed certain melodies & rhythms that originate from Turkish music.

I would have to say that Kurdish or Persian music, I don?t really enjoy all that much.

And Hebrew sounds most like Assyrian than any other language.

I know Hebrew sounds a lot like Assyrian...I meant Turkish music sounds a lot like Assyrian music...not the language itself. :)
 
i told my wedding singers no Kurdish or Turkish music i kinda feel dumb though because there will be Persian and Arabic lol

i don't know I'm kind of changing my tune now i use to get so angry because my parents listen to Kurdish,Persian and Turkish music.

I'm more lenient towards other people listening to Turkish, Persian and Arabic music now but a big NO for Kurdish music.

for me Assyrian and trance will do thanks.

you shouldn't feel guilty, you should feel ashamed.  Don't subject yourself to that crap.

Why is it that assyrians are the first ones in line when it comes to arab/turk music, but you'll never see a turk or arab listening to assyrian music? 
 
I was surprised to see my Manager (whos half Italian/Jew) had Janan Sawa's CD in his car and listens to it all the time.

There are people out there who enjoy other music just like we enjoy different music too.

the odd italian, jew, or any other non-assyrian for that matter listening to assyrian music does not negate the fact that those ppl are extremely few in number.  On the hand, an incredible amount of assyrians love their arab, turkish, and even kurdish crap.
