YONKERS ? A christening party for a 1-year-old girl was breaking up Sunday when shots rang out in a church parking lot. When they stopped, three young men had been hit.

"People started running back into the building from the parking lot and yelling, 'They are shooting,' " Youra Belmrood, 81, the church's business manager, said yesterday. Belmrood was inside the St. Mari Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church building at 129 Buena Vista Ave. when the gunfire broke out just after midnight.

Two of the victims remained in the hospital yesterday, one of them critically wounded. A 17-year-old Bronx resident was charged with misdemeanor weapon possession after police found an unloaded revolver in his car as he drove away from the party. But police had made no arrests in the shootings.

Yonkers detectives were being tight-lipped about what triggered the shootings or how many people were firing guns.

"We are not going to comment on what direction the investigation is going," said Yonkers Detective Lt. Maureen Zadorozny.

Belmrood said he rented the basement hall to a woman for her 1-year-old daughter's christening party. He would not identify her.

Zadorozny said police were called to the church, and when they arrived, people were scattering everywhere. Police attempted to detain everyone to piece together what happened.

The three victims left the scene before police arrived. Police found them in different areas of the city.

The most seriously injured, a 17-year-old Bronx resident who was shot in the abdomen, already had been taken to a hospital by someone at the party.

A 16-year-old Yonkers boy was shot in the calf and right ankle. Police found him wounded and bleeding on Radford Street blocks away. He was still hospitalized yesterday.

A 22-year-old Yonkers man who was shot in the left thigh flagged down a police Emergency Services Unit truck on Saratoga Avenue. He was treated and released from a hospital.

Despite the bloody shooting, church services took place on Sunday morning as usual, Belmrood said.

How upsetting! They were there celebrating the CHRISTENING of this little girl, and zkhee what they do in the parking lot outside of the church. How incredibly shameful, and disrespectful to the entire sacrament of baptism!

I saw this posted on AINA and have tried to find more information, with no luck.  I didn't see anything on Beth Suryoyo or on a google search.  I initially thought it was one of our hot-headed guys, but I hope I'm wrong!

the shooting was done by mexicans to mexicans.  mexicans rented the hall saturday night and they got drunk and some1 shot 3 people.  i was there earlier in the night for a youth group meeting but we left before the shooting happened.

so once again to clarify this had nothing to do with surayeh other then it happened at our church, but no assyrians were involved and no assyrians got injured.

ghere goes the video link, its gonna take a minute for it to buffer or whatever.  this is just from the news so its not gonna show any blood or shootings or anything, its just an after the fact news report.    you do get to see youra blvamrood though lol haha church manager lol haha that guy is hillairous, he looks like assyrian mr. potato head  and the dude with the stache standin behind youra is my uncle the shamasha lol he's an OG
