Sharing some of my group Assyrian music project

Hello everybody,
My first post here. I would really love to meet some fellow Assyrian musician/Singers/enthusiasts from around the world. From time to time I work on group oriented music projects and would love to have more people taking parts. They're basically zero budget recordings so nothing spectacular, but it's a lot of fun sharing our passion for music. As long as you have an average singing voice and have access to a modest home recording set up, it will work. So feel free to hit me up if this is of any interest for you. At this time, I'm working on some Christmas Carol songs (Assyrian lyrics), so I got a lot of parts available. It would mostly be audio, however, if you're interested in being part of our video projects, that's also an option if you like.  Hope to hear from new friends....Peace!

Thank you Neon, Glad you enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of Choral/Acapella type of music. I think human's voice is the best instrument there is. Unfortunately, it's super hard to find even a few fellow Assyrian vocalists in the same place, or at least the types that would be interested in more artistic kind of projects. Very sad...
 
These are all nice songs but I really don't like the sound of auto-tuned voices. Thanks and merry Christmas nonetheless!
 
Of course you know the difference between Auto Tune and Phasing/Chorus artifacts that show up in zero budget group recordings, right? Of course you do!  :roflmao:

You should've really said here's how I DO IT  and shared your own choir recordings here... but you didn't , because ....let me guess. Maybe you don't have any?

Both methods make the voices sound alike in an distinctively unnatural robotic way. Regardless of the method, I just don't like it when the voices sound artificial. I'm not having a go at your editing skills, I just prefer the natural sound of voices which means that I would rather just hear these people without any editing of their voices from anyone -it's not a personal attack nor a comment on your ability to edit these songs. I don't like it even when done with the greatest of budgets.
 
Yep...you shouldn't be using technical terms that you don't fully understand to describe a personal taste which is totally irrelevant to this particular recording situation. People will read the posts and may think someone actually used some kind of hardware/software to correct/tweak or even generate vocal stems. That's what "Auto-Tuned" vocals mean! You still have my open invitation to post your choir recordings...I'll be more than happy to discuss technical things with you but please do NOT hijack this thread and make this about you learning basic audio terms.

Anyways just to clear up confusion about the nature of these recordings here's a NOT so detailed backstory:

1) Recording a LIVE performance is hardly an option at this particular church because it's just too noisy...way too noisy!
2) It's almost impossible to get everybody together at a certain time in Los Angeles especially if they happen to be Assyrian volunteers if you know what I mean! 
3) So you'll end up recording sectionals at one of the empty rooms that could possibly be available...but you don't get the same room every time and each room has a different acoustic with its own sonic problems. You never know which room is available for the next recording session either...There's more speed bumps but I'll stop here I think! In any case, when you combine all those tracks, some artifacts are introduced. Some CAN be corrected, but some can't. It's just the way acoustics and psychoacoustics work. 

So yeah...the end results are not that bad considering the limitations. If anything, there's something to listen to in our own language. I get a lot of messages on Facebook from all over the world ....from moms trying to get their kids to sing in this language to non-assyrians and anything in between. In fact there's two professional Canadian and German choir who want to perform this exact arrangement of Coventry Carol song in Assyrian for their next Christmas concert.

I'm pretty happy about that and will continue arranging and recording songs for our community. I try not to pay too much attention to what I don't have and stuff. As long as it works...that's good enough for me.
