GOP VP Candidate Palin's Daughter is Pregnant

ST. PAUL - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said. (Oh please, like she had a choice in the matter -- daughter of rabid pro-lifer has an abortion, wouldn't exactly help with those evangelical voters, would it?)

"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support," the Palins said.

The Palins asked the news media to respect the young couple's privacy.

"Bristol and the young man she will (is being forced to) marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media, respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates," the statement concluded.

Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way. (Yes, having a laughingly unqualified person who just happens to have a vagina and is the mother of 5 children, the youngest being a 4 month-old with special needs, and another teen who is unwed and pregnant would surely not disqualify someone with such remarkable credentials as this first-term governor.  Nice vetting McSame  :giggle:)

Your post is disgusting to me.  The way you are celebrating the unfortunate circumstances under which Bristol is pregnant says a lot more about you than her being pregnant says about her.

Aaawwwww  :nopity:

And I agree that her pregnancy is "unfortunate."  Perhaps if her parents believed in birth control she wouldn't be in this "unfortunate" situation.

This just goes to show that Gov. Palin are her conservative family are not perfect and they, just like many American families are going through rough times with today's teenage society.  Keeping it from the media is respecting the family's privacy, why drag her daughter into the spot light?  Why is it that politicians and their families are scrutinized, especially conservative ones?  This doesn't make sense to me.  If people understood humanity and nature, they would see that individuals struggle with many things, things that can compromise or tempt their faith.  Bristol's decision ended up with a pregnancy.  Sure, I don't believe it's right, but the choice was made, deal with it.  It's funny how people drag out these stories for their benefit or party's benefit but fail to realize that life is tough and you just have to play the cards that you're dealt with.  I praise Sarah Palin for instructing her daughter to keep the child despite the unChristian acts.  Part of being Christian is realizing the mistakes you've made and having the faith and praying for guidance to overcome those mistakes.  I think this story will actually help Palin and Mcain by showing America that Palin is one of us.  We've all gone through trying times and that dealing with them and moving on is the right course.  Baklawa, you of all people, as a mother especially should understand that.  Then again, politics is a dirty game, nothing is clear, cut, and neat.

I completely respect the decision made for Bristol by her parents, and I would expect that as VP (if she actually makes it) Palin would respect other people's decisions in such private matters. But that's not her stance, is it?

And newsflash -- once you decide to run for the highest office in the country you should expect that such matters will be made public.  Sarah Palin apparently knew of her daughter's pregnancy before she accepted the offer to run on the republican ticket, so she must be ok with everyone discussing her daughter's predicament.

Rumtaya, actually this is the appropriate forum as it concerns the VP candidate for the US in the upcoming elections.

I agree, you are putting yourself in the spotlight when running for public office.  The issue here shouldn't be about Palin's daughter but rather America.  We have so many bigger issues regarding our nation and one of them isn't about the potential VP's daughter. Focusing on the important issues is what the candidates should be doing and so far I am praising Obama for not jumping at the chance to use Palin's daughter as ammo.

The issue becomes a matter for public concern when the person running for office would advocate against families making such private, personal decisions for themselves and instead try to legislate her morals and values (or lack thereof) on the general public.

I mean, really, who cares?  The real question is does bristol support onshore or offshore drilling?

seriously, you Democrate  are a real fanatic  , do you want to say all these sigles moms and the one who sleeps around and have many childrens with different fathers are REPUBLICAN and thier parents do not belive in birth control???? its time to wake up guys , and stop dreaming of "The perfect "

It's not nice humiliating another human being in public eyes. Human rights shouldn't suddenly disappear for people in power and authority. They are human beings just like any of us.

Baklawa, i honestly did not think you would enjoy laughing at someone in this situation. But you have ur human rights too, and it's not my place to say whether ur right or wrong.

It looks like drilling is the most important thing on her agenda, she must have an opinion on that.

No, we're only saying they should use condoms. I'm not a massive fan of generalisations, but where Republican/Conservatives are the subject of conversation, I can voice a fair few that are quite accurate.

Are you going against our magazine/celebrity culture here? If so, good luck.

It makes me laugh because if the tables were turned, a Republican media base would be just as harsh but from a different angle.

Being made public is one thing.  Celebrating the fact that an unwed 17 year old is pregnant for the sake of political gain is beyond crass.

Actually, pro-lifers are doing nothing more than making certain the baby has a voice in the decision as well.

It's fine to attack a politician on his/her morals, ethics, or stances, but to mock a family member is ridiculous.  Mocking Gov. Palin's daughter is sick and uncalled for.  Even if it were an adult, say John Kerry's daughter for "exposing" her breasts, I say it's still wrong.  To mock a child is pathetic.  How would a mother feel if her daughter were pregnant and members of her family mocked her for making a mistake?  I say put yourself in Gov. Palin's shoes and see how disrespectful it is.  Politics should be a serious matter (sarcasm is cool) not an attempt at destroying one's family for the sake of gaining votes.

I just love all this faux outrage and cries for privacy.  It would be one thing had this happened during the course of the campaign, but Palin knew her daughter was pregnant before she accepted the offer to be on a national ticket.  For any parent to knowingly expose their teen during such a sensitive time makes me question their judgment.  It also makes the cynic in me wonder if it is not the republicans who are using this young girl and her pregnancy for political gain.  Afterall, McSame had tried everything in the book to galvanize his evangelical base to no avail.  Enter unwed pregnant teen who is not having an abortion and marrying the baby's daddy, and VOILA!  Hello energized right-wing voters!

You're completely clueless.  I'm embarrassed for you if you can't understand basic logic yet insist on responding to my every post, truly pathetic.  Her mother advocates against using birth control.  Her stance on sex education is equivalent to placing your head in the sand.  "Don't have sex and don't use birth control if you do" = unwanted pregnancy.  Her daughter's predicament is a direct result of her political positions and she is proof of how they don't work.  Do you understand now?

So the children of liberal parents never have babies out of wedlock??  If the 17 year old daughter of a pro-murder (pro-choice) couple was pregnant and chose to kill (abort) the baby, would she also be the half twit, brainwashed "poor soul" that you make Bristol out to be?

You DON'T HAVE A CLUE what happened here.  None of us do, so stop with your reactionary analysis.  Perhaps Bristol was taking birth control, maybe the condom broke, maybe it was just a plain old accident.  Whatever happened, doesn't the LEFT always say they want to reduce the number of abortions even though they support the right to kill (choose)????  So instead of demeaning her, why don't you celebrate her as one of those who has chosen to keep her baby, as the LEFT would have us believe they prefer.

AND, taking my own advice that none of us know what happened, I'm done with this topic.  Baklawa, should you choose to come back with more vitriol, I pray that all who read it will see you for the sick and twisted person you are on this topic.

Glad you're done with the topic as you contribute nothing to it anyway other than your usual religious foaming-at-the-mouth stupidity.  Sorry your candidate is incapable of vetting properly and chose someone so woefully unqualified and unfit for the job.

I neither celebrate nor condemn the child, her life is none of my business.  It is the positions of her mother that concern me and the influence she will have in pushing those stances should she regretfully be elected.  It is the positions taken by those who blur the lines between church and state and advocate against having proper sex education taught in schools, birth control availability, and individual choices left up to families (as the Palins were allowed to make) that make this a relevant issue for discussion.
