Ashuriena, if they don't want to abolish the income tax then give us something in return. This 44% bull**** is crap, the US lends out too much money to developing nations that's why it's got a deficit. Also, More imports than exports, so no matter what you do you will be running at a deficit. I think they actually like running at a deficit. Certain states like Texas don't even have a personal income tax, so how is there state gov't able to function without the magic 44%?
Where did you get the 44%? from the IRS website? or the federal gov't one? lol I wouldn't trust either
Income tax hasn't been around for thousands of years, taxes have been around for a long ass time but not income taxes, you never paid tax on your labor. it was a ****in barter system back in the day...you give me this and i give you that, no one took income tax a thousand years ago! ancient land tax = property tax, I dunno what taxes on crops are, never heard of this. How did they take taxes in crops back then, leyn parmuyeh?
Why should this gov't run at a deficit, they're not offering social programs galore?? They bring that **** upon themselves cause they sure as hell ain't offering anything to us. Where are all the social programs? Utopian society doesn't mean you don't pay taxes, I would consider euro countries, canada, australia...closer to utopia then america and they are known for having "high", which is bs, taxes BUT they get a lot in return...the least of which is also having a high ****in quality of life.
If you can't trust an IRS website, let alone any other federal government information, why are you still in this country? I'm not trying to be mean or offend you in anyway, but if you are a conspiracy theorist about the deception of this nation, why are you still a resident/citizen of this country? Wouldn't you want to be living in these so-called "closer-to-utopian" countries, like Canada (isn't this an oxymoron)?
How is Canada a "closer-to-utopian" nation when the major candidates of Canada actually agreed that their health care system is a complete failure? The OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) even found that Canada spends the most tax dollars on health care yet has one of the lowest quality of medical equipment, access to physicians, and health outcomes. (If you're questioning it, type in "Canada - medical" in Google and see all the terrible things written about Canada's healthcare).
What does Canada get in return? I'd really like to know. What has Canada done? Their universal healthcare is down the drain and their entire economy is dependent on US trade which makes up almost 80% of their exports and roughly 65% of their imports. If you want to talk about BS, lets talk about their 6% unemployment rate when Canada has a population of 35 million. As opposed to America's unemployment rate of 5% with a population of 303 million in America. Is this the "closer-to-utopia" you were talking about?
And I don't want to talk about high quality of life...this would turn into a 300 page essay.
As a super power, the US is in a position in which it must financially assist developing countries. America is already hated by the outside world...if we didn't have this, imagine how much more terrible we'd seem. But anyways, image aside, America has a responsibility to help developing nations grow. We have to assist those through genocides and those through national disasters because although we are globally divided as countries, we must show humanitarian effort to promote some sort of unity. America is even financially assisting Assyrians in Iraq with millions of dollars as well. If anything, it still hits home.
Contrary to what you may believe about aid programs, the federal government does spend a great deal on them. Not only does it fund welfare, social security, medicare/medicaid, and a great deal of other necessities, but we also have school programs that provide better education for students as well as making education more financially accessible to students (low fees of state schools and other public colleges and universities) alongside child welfare programs. These are just to name a few from the several programs that the government provides. Our government does more for us than we know. The freeways/highways we drive on are mostly maintained through federal grants given to the states to use on state necessities, like rebuilding and maintenance of freeways/highways and public libraries, schools, etc.
If you want more facts in regards to income tax allowing for greater federal government revenue and supporting a free market economy, Cornell law school (Ivy League school) actually wrote something in regards to this:
"In 1985 for example, the government collected over $450 billion in income tax from a total of $742 billion in total internal revenue receipts. The funds collected are essential for the shaping and preservation of a free market economy." (http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/index.php/Income_tax)
I don't know why you're trying to refute the 44%. It's not a fallacy. It's a fact. I've read it in numerous books, the IRS information, and through federal government information (their factbooks). Some states, like Nevada, don't have a state income tax, but they still have a federal income tax (every state is required to pay a federal income tax). They are able to survive because of the lower cost of living. You have to understand that wages are not the same throughout the states as well as the cost of living because in some states like New York and California, the cost of living is much higher (thus the wages are usually higher to allow for living) and therefore, there is a greater need of state government revenue. Also, these states hold great metropolitan cities like New York City and Los Angeles. LA County has a resident population of over 11 million people in such a small county. With such populations comes a higher level of people living below the poverty line. I believe in LA it's roughly 17% of the 11 million living below the poverty line. Therefore, the institution of state income tax was necessary in order to help fund more programs that may not necessarily be aided by federal grants to provide for these people.
Finally, if you want the tax code for income tax, it's Title 26 of the US Code (26 P.S.C). Subtitle A speaks thoroughly about income tax.
