The Olympics in Rio are only a few days away and I couldn't be more excited. I am a huge fan of the Olympics, probably only second as a sport event to the World Cup (or third behind Euros/Copa America as well)

Unfortunately, the preparation have been plagued by a lot of problems, delays and scandals in Brazil (it is Brazil after all, so it is expected really....) . So many athletes have decided to skip the the Olympics this team out of fear of the Zika virus, which I thought is a bit overblown. But it is a personal decision.

Of course, I am most excited to see if Brazil will finally win gold in soccer, something they haven't been able to do yet. They have a strong team this time, including Neymar, Rafinga, Gabigol, Gabriel Jesus, Felipe Anderson and others. So on paper, it is pretty strong in attack. But Brazilian olympic teams always find a way to make stupid mistakes that end up costing them the gold medal. Hopefully it is different this time.

By the way, Iraq made it to the soccer tournament and they happen to be in Brazil's group out of all groups. But it will be an easy one for me, I will be cheering for Brazil  :cool2:

I was very excited for the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. For some reason, I started to lose interest after those. I don't even remember the 2012 Olympics properly.

I think it could be all the doping scandals that is making so many athletes disqualify or lost their records. I do agree that it is taking the fun and completion away from it when there is so many non-stop scandals and politics mixed with the Olympics. But to me when the games start, I tend to forget about it all. When you have athletes like Bolt, Phelps, Neymar, Lebron and others competing, you can't help but to watch.

I am more of a city-centric person btw, when it comes to the Olympics. Beijing and London weren't too interesting for me. Rio is better looking than they are, but I'm no big fan of it. I would still watch the opening ceremony though.

They should do some more intriguing and exotic cities in the next ones - Paris, Rome, Madrid, New Delhi (not sure about that one), Abu Dhabi or Dubai....and the likes.

We have two Assyrians in the Olympics so far. Mikael Ishak who's playing for Sweden in soccer and Iakov Khammo representing Ukraine in Judo.

I don't know why, but I'm as interesting in the Olympics as I used to be. I'm sorry ASHOOR, I know you wanted to share this but I do remember a time when the Olympics did interest me but for some reason the magic isn't there this time.

I am so enjoying these Olympics, especially swimming! How can you not enjoy them when you have a guy named Phelps, breaking record after record.

Canadians have been doing great at swimming as well, but still not so much at other sports, with only a total of 6 medals (1 silver and 5 bronze)

And of course, there is soccer, where my lovely Brazil tied with Iraq and South Africa before rebounding and trouncing Denmark 4-0 yesterday. They meet Colombia next in the QF. Brazil has never won Olympic gold in men's soccer.

Yeah my friend showed me that. As much as I dislike Israel, that's so lame. That guy is an ass.
(I've heard he did it because he would have been hated when he got back home, but that's no excuse. That's just cowardly)

One side of the world(most of it) thinks he's a coward which he is, the other will welcome him as a hero, go figure.

Track and field has been pretty good. Bolt showboating and taking gold as usual, Van Niekerk was a shocking one with the 400m WR and I'm looking forward to see if Schippers can smash the 200m women's. The olympics is quite an enjoyable event.

The Lebanese team refused to enter the bus with the Israelis too. lol -_- its s p o r t s not politics.
Shows that REAL racism is alive and well. If Europeans did this to those from a predominantly Islamic nation (and for that reason), the media would be fuming. Twitter and social websites will be filled with angry people and SJW's throwing the race card. It's amazing how the media didn't care much about this  unforgivable incident. Well, perhaps maybe they were too busy calling Ellen "racist" for innocently photoshopping herself riding Usain Bolt?
