Recent mentioning of Assyrians in the news: is there a bible connection?

I came across a video of a sermon being given in Arabic by an Egyptian Coptic preacher.

His topic was about the 'Book of Nahum' (??? ????). As some of you may know, this is one of shortest books in the bible, containing only three chapters, most of it dedicated to the Assyrian empire and its fall.

According to this preacher and using the book of Nahum as his pretext, he thinks all the recent attacks on Assyrians and their name going mainstream in the media is part of the overall plan for the latter days, where Assyrians come to the forefront once again. In other words, everything is simply going according to plan as per God's vision.

And if you guys read it, it was just last week that I remarked that suddenly, Assyrians are finally not only in the news, but all over it. It was just hard to explain, considering that Assyrians in Iraq have been suffering for tears, yet their name was hardly ever in the news.

Unfortunately the video is about one minute short so I couldn't listen to it in full.

And btw, it is not the first time that someone makes a connection between the recent events in Syria and bible prophecy.

ASHOOR, me and a few people have also been discussing this. We believe this is the start of something great, the rise of Assyria.

Not to sound pessimistic or negative, but just because we're being mentioned by the Western media doesn't mean we have "risen" or anything.

We have just been recognized. Nothing much or less...

I agree.

The reason we are mentioned in the media is because ISIS targeted the Assyrian villages of Syria that were purely from the Church of the East. In Iraq there is more confusion, because the majority of Assyrians there are Chaldean Catholic and identify more with their religious side.

I actually already made the same point elsewhere: that we are sadly being mentioned only because of all tragedies happening to us.

But hey, wouldn't you at least want your name out there, recognizing your suffering than not? I do! We don't want to be killed and our history destroyed without anyone noticing.

Yet the world isn't doing much to help Assyrians...

I don't believe the world actually cares whether Assyrians die out or not...

But such a belief only makes my resolve stronger...
