So Toronto recently won in their bid for the 2015 PAN AM Games.
Seems all fine and dandy, but is it a good step for Toronto as a city? Firstly, thank goodness its not the Olympics. Toronto just cant handle something like that. We'd be in debt forever.
But even still. The Games will cost tax payers $1.3 billion (estimated costs as of now...but of course it'll balloon when 2015 comes near). Is it worth the investment?
I think the city has a lot of major mismanagement and major budgeting issues that needed to be adressed before even considering such an event. We have a hard time as it is to pay for anything in the city. We're also the only city with it's own Land Transfer Tax. There are also so many other retarded fees that we are charged for just about everything. Even with all that, next years budget is short $400-500 million. Now they are considering a Municipal Sales Tax on top of the HST.
1 stupid thing after another.
So I ask again, is it worth it for Toronto to host the games? I don't think so.
