Youkhanna Oraha, the oldest and longest serving deacon in the Assyrian church of the east has passed away.
He was born in the Assyrian village of lower Nerwe (Nerwe Khtetha / نيروي السفلى) in 1925 and ordained asa deacon in 1941. So he has been a deacon for close to 80 years!
This is an interview they did with him 2 years ago in Dohuk, Iraq where he lived. I happen to know his grand-daughter who lives here in Toronto and is a registered member of these forums.
To put his service longevity into prospective, when he started, Mar Eishai Shimun was the patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East!
Rest In Peace and thankful for his long service for the church!
