It's interesting how much closer Aramaic is to Arabic then it is to Assyrian/Syriac.

Also, look at how some of them are calling the language "siryon", i'm guessing that would translate to Syriac, that's really interesting considering they're not speaking Syriac! Although the priest does call the language "oromoytha"

But they're not speaking Assyrian? They're speaking Aramaic.

That is what I learned yes. But it doesn't sound like the Assyrian we speak at all. It is closer to Arabic then Turoyo or even the written language we use in Church. Thaks for the video .

Because they call themselves Syrians, not Arameans.

You're also correct, a lot of Arabic words do borrow from Aramaic, of course the same happens the other way around, mind you this is not to mention for the millionth time on this forum that our language and Arabic are sister languages, so in theory you're going to see a lot of similar words, in fact I would say Arabic is a very good language to learn if you want to perfect our language, it's always a good language to confirm with (Along with Hebrew) if you wanna know whether the word is foreign or not.

Nevertheless I think it is amazing to hear this language, considering the fact they will have to do trade with Arabs, I don't think it's weird the language has been influenced.

Very interesting video. Assyrian organizations should definitely be in contact with these people, letting them know that there are other sureth speaking people out there and helping them out with the language revival efforts. It's interesting that they use the word 'sarkoi' when referring to Muslims. That term (sarkoi, saracean) was also used by Europeans for Muslims. The term itself is a corruption of the Arabic word for easterner but it definitely shows the Greek influence on this area. I especially like the shepherd...he looks like he would be one of your drunk uncles from back in the 80's with that huge mustache, military outfit and open shirt...lol
