Congregation celebrates Pope's appointment to Chaldean church

With the appointment from Pope Francis, which was announced Saturday, Soro is officially recognized by the Catholic church. His future
duties remain uncertain because Jammo already represents this region as a bishop.

Soro said he may learn what his next assignment will be later this year when the Chaldean church?s senate, made up of other bishops, convenes.

Arabo said the pope?s declaration was historic because it?s rare for a leader from another religious group to be appointed as a Catholic bishop.

?It affects Chaldeans throughout the world,? he added. ?It directly affects 80,000 Chaldeans.?

Arabo said Soro was in line to become a top leader of the Assyrian Church, making his conversion that much more significant.

?It was like we drafted the Michael Jordan of the Assyrians,? he said.

Now that this official, should Mr. Sarhad Jamo watch his back? Should he be worried that Ashur Soro could one day take over his powerful and wealthy chaldean parish of St. Peter in San Diego?

Otherwise, the chaldean church now has to appoint him to a new church of his own. The community may love him too much to let him go.

And for Mr. Arabo, he may have been the 'Michael Jordan' or Assyrian church, as he was truly knowledgeable and educated, but he wasn't the 'Mother Terssa' of the Assyrian church: after his defection and ex-communication from the Assyrian church, his true colors came our. Enough people in San Jose (and even from his time here in Toronto) got to know him and he is know what he appears to be.

But I hope, for the sake of Christianity at least, that he serves the church and the church only and doesn't have other ambitions like he did while serving the Assyrian church.

His true colours?  Or the COE's true colours came out? The Assyrians lost an asset and the Chaldean Catholic church gained an asset.  The blame lies in the corruption of the COE.

funny how Chaldeans not living in beth nahrain call themselves Chaldean but the Chaldeans living back home call themselves Assyrian.
