Another year and another lost final for Argentina and the so-called 'GOAT' :rofl2:
For the second year in a row, Argentina lost the Copa America final, to Chile again in PK. This was a special edition Copa America, to celebrate Copa's 100th year anniversary.
Argentina has now gone 23 years without winning a single international title (World Cup, Copa America, Confederation Cup) . In fact, nefer mind winning titles, they haven't scored a single goal since scoring 1 goal in a 4-1 loss in the 2005 confederation Cup finals to Brazil. Since then, they have reached 3 Copa America Finals and 1 World Cup final, and scored 0 goals!
For Messi, he has now played in 7 tournaments with Argentina (4 Copa Americas, 3 World Cups) and he has yet to win a single trophy! Not only that, he is yet to score in any of the 4 finals he has played in (3 Copa Americas and 1 World Cup) . And it gets worse. Having played in 3 world cups, Messi is yet to score a single goal past the first round (elimination rounds)
Messi is already 29 years old, and as good as he is still able to play, he is entering his twilight years. He won't get many more shots to win something. In fact, following the loss yesterday, he came out and declared that he is retiring from international soccer, though I suspect that was said in the heat of the moment after losing yet another final. But still, at 29, and for someone who some people consider GOAT, or one of the GOAT, it is a fraud that he hasn't won a single title for Argentina.
By comparison, Pele had won 3 world cups by age 29. Same with Maradonna, he was only 25 when he dazzled the world and led Argentina to world cup victory in 1986. By age 29, he led them to the world cup final again, but weren't able to win it this time. And keeping the conversation about GOAT, Brazilian legend Ronaldo was only 25 when he won the 2002 World Cup. In addition to that, he won the Copa America and Confederation Cup and famously scored in the finals of all 3 tournaments! I could talk about other players worthy of this title , but I will end it there. I guess you guys get the picture by now.
I like Messi as a person, I really do. He is not arrogant or has a big ego, at least now from what I can see in public. But I just hate his fan boys and the clueless media that has long declared him the GOAT. Like give me a break. For a GOAT, he should have won 1 title in 7 attempts by now. Heck, even if he comes back and wins the WC in 2018, it won't mean a lot, since it will be his first win in 8 tries. Even I would have won a title in 8 tries...
You can consider Messi a lot of things: greatest Barcelona player of all time. Greatest La Liga player of all time. Maybe even the greatest player of all time. But he is not the GOAT. That title belongs to Pele, followed by Maradonna and Ronaldo (or switch the order for these two)
