I generally do not like most Assyrian music because it now sounds too much like Kurdish and Arabic in rhythmic tones. I stumbled upon Madlen Ishoeva(Russian Assyrian) while trying to find some decent music. I was quite surprised in how beautiful her music was.

Here's a link to one of her albums. I personally like "Vazo" and "06" the most.

Thanks, I will check her music out.

But what others of the western Assyrian singers do you like?
No problem!

Do you mean "western" as in Suryoye or American/European? If it's the former, I honestly don't know any singers and if it's the latter, I really only liked Jermain Tamraz(old singer) and Flora Simon is pretty good for modern Assyrian pop. I've kind of just skimmed over modern Assyrian singers on Youtube, and didn't care for most of them. I can't recall any particular names though.

I do remember a user on here (forgot their name) saying that Assyrian music needs to develop out from its church music similar to how Rock music originated from Classical while Classical originates from church music/Gregorian chant.

Exactly! If I don't listen to American Christian music, I'm certainly not going to listen to the Assyrian variety. That's also why I like Jermain Tamraz. Her music, albeit old, is unique and reflective of our cultural hybridity in the diaspora. Same with Madlen Ishoeva and Flora Simon.
