The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenceman Luke Richardson from Columbus for a fifth round pick and conditional fourth round pick.

Richardson, 36, returns to the team that took him seventh overall in the 1987 Entry Draft.

Richardson, a 19-year veteran, was named captain two months after signing with Columbus in July 2002.

The team removed the captain's "C" from his sweater after being benched for the last game of a seven-game losing streak last November.

My only question is why?

cause we like to get older and not younger man when is this team gona start building for the future :bangin:

I think I found the answer to my question!

Fergy is getting a veteran dman so that the loss of McCabe in a trade to be done soon enough. I think he feels we still have SOME chance to make it to the playoffs. So by trading McCabe for young talent/draft picks, he also needs to keep some legitamate talent on the team for that playoff push.

He's folding in a way, but in another, making a run....not bad ;)

McCabe will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer. He's refusing to sign a contract and stated he's in no rush to get a deal done with the leafs.

McCabe does want to test the free agent waters because he knows a player with his "talent" is of high value. The leafs had offered him a deal which was actually lower than the deal Kaberle signed a few weeks ago.

Anyway, I think he will be gone by the Thursday deadline in exchange for draft picks and prospects.

man i hope they get something better than nothing and the guy is asking for too much and this is his best year

they wont trade mccabe, but he will sign with the leas. The free agent market isnt the same anymore now that there is a cap. No team is stupid enough to sign him for more then what the leafs offered. Norstrom just signed a contract like that and hes wayyyy better then mccabe

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe has rejected a four-year, $16 million contract offer.
According to Canada's Sportsnet, McCabe is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and has already turned down the offer, which was recently made by the Leafs.

McCabe, 30, currently leads the Leafs in scoring with 54 points (17 goals, 37 assists) and has already having a career season.

It is being speculated that the Leafs will continue their attempts to re-sign the native of St. Catherines, Ontario, rather than trade him prior to Thursday's trade deadline.

yeah i nkow he rejected the offer. i'm saying he wont get traded, he'll test the market, find out no one is dumb enough to give him 6 mill, then sign with the leafs for that contract he turned down.

First you say how awful roloson is when in fact hes a proven goalie and an upgrade from any goalie the oilers have. Then you tell me richardson is a good pickup and you need a big body out there? Yup I knew it all along you know absolutely nothing about sports.
