Hello!

I believe there may be a topic on this, but I am also falling asleep at the moment!

 Educate me people!

I am embarrased to say that I am in Comp. Sci. Yet I am not knowledgable in this department per say!

I need to find a lap top that can be bought for $800, I found a few @ Dell or some on Sale at FutureShop, but then again I am not certain.

I am not looking for a used laptop either, If I can I would like to pull off a laptop for that price!

Thank you every so much for your time.
God Bless and Take Care,
Love Cookie!  :bigarmhug: :2hearts:

Dell is your best bet coming to laptops. You can customize the one you want so you have only what you need and nothing that you dont need. If you need any indepth help on choosing what's right for you, i think you have my msn addy, shoot me a line sometime,

Kevin Thank You!

I :2hearts: you!

No babes I don't have your msn addy, but help yourself to mine, it's on my profile

I will have to catch you tomorrow sweetie, I'm so tired for some odd reason?

Take care sweetie, talk soon and God Bless...
Love Cookie :)

Will do, I just finished doing a bunch of research for a laptop in the same price range so I've still got it all burned into my mind lol

Thank you Kevin!

We will talk tonight, don't forget to add me :)

Love Always, Cookie :bigarmhug:

From what I've seen, toshibas and HP's are overpriced unless you get a good deal on a prebuilt system, or have a coupon that gives you a huge discount.

That's a pretty nice deal if you upgrade to the 100gb HD and get 1gb of ram, and you are still under the 1200 dollar mark. Look around at HP and toshiba and you'd be hard pressed to find a computer with similar specs with a price tag close to that.

And cookie, we've still gotta get you one lol

That's what I was going to recomend for you, with 1gb of ram and the 80gb hd, and unless you need something really powerful for whatever you're pursuing in school, it should be a good all around computer. It's pretty similar to the laptop im using right now, and I dont feel any need to upgrade it really.

Guys if you're Costco members, there is a great deal going on soon.

HP 15.4 inch notebook, with 2 gigs memery, 100 gb harddrive, Windows Media Center software for $999.99 after coupon.  Where can you find a 2 gig notebook for under a grand?  Hopeully this deal is in your area.

lol Ya Canadian Eh lool... Please   I have a feeling I'll be spending a G on this

Thank you Kevin!!

Aye, you are going to be hard-pressed to find a processor that isn't a celeron for the price range you are in, and if you do, it's probably going to have a tiny HD and a small amount of ram.

Very True :sadangel:

Uff alright I will re-think this but will also keep looking!

Thank you Kevin YOU ROCK! :bigarmhug:

get an IBM Thinkpad, they're slightly expensive but you can never go wrong with it. very durable I must say

Make sure its either Centrino or Pentium only (not celeron).  Min. 60 GB hard drive space, more if you play online games or need heavy imaging software.  If you know what you want, customize it at dell.ca.  Stuff like software (CD burning sw/MS Office/music sw) is free from limewire/morpheus  so you don't need it when asking for features.  Hardware add-ons (printers, etc.) are usually cheaper by themselves so you don't need that either.

I think you can get the above from Dell for 900 canadian on their sales (which are different every day, so you gotta check their site daily if you want 1).  Toshiba Satellite and HP Pavilion are two other reliable laptop brands.  Problem is they don't let people customize their buys.  There are more reliable products, but not cheap (IBM thinkpad/MAC).

You might wanna check this site http://www.epinions.com/PC_Laptops for specific reliability ratings before buying the notebook.

Dennis and Had,

Thank you so much for your input, it is very appreciated.  If I get the chance I will look into purchasing a laptop around the first month of school.  I'm hoping for some back to school special, that or end of summer clearance BS lol..

Kevin, Narsai, Dennis, and Had, all of you gents have been absolute bookyateh!!

:bigarmhug: THANK YOU

That's pretty similar to what I have now, aside from the AMD processor. I'm not an expert, but I believe AMD's are better suited for gaming and such, but Intels are more for pretty much everything else you want to do.

yea ur right AMD's r better for gaming

But the reason i like AMD over Intel is that AMD's dont run as HOT as Intel's

So it keeps the computers temp. down which then helps everything else in ur computer

But some ppl say that Ibc ntel has all this dual proccesor special stuff that its much bette rthan AMD

ehh

but i think im gonna get that HP

oo i hav another question....do u know when microsoft vista is coming out?

My mom bought 2 gateways from her brother for $450 each.  They are celeron though   I know people say we should never buy them but I don't know why.  The laptops are very basic, but they're only used for the internet and playing kids games.  Do you guys think its an ok price for them? I think its kinda high, but my mom also did want to help out her brother with some money issues.....
