I know some people might be sick of all these voting threads, but we're in the homestretch now, so the onslaught continues.
This has been making the rounds on FaceBook. Although I honestly cannot fathom how any Assyrian could vote for a slate other than 389, I am posting this in the hopes that if they are out there, they will read this and reconsider. They don't have to vote for 389 if they don't want to, but I'd at least plead with them to vote directly for the kurdish/arab slates rather than the insulting 390-392 slates.
Over the last several days, I have noticed some serious misinformation regarding this weekend's elections. I underestimated how well the different Christian slates were communicating with Assyrians in Diaspora, so I'd like to take the opportunity to make a few things clear, so that everyone may make an informed decision.
Please note: It is possible to vote for any slate, and choose ANY candidate on the slate. One does NOT have to choose a candidate from a political party which one does not agree with. As a matter of fact, if there is a particular candidate which one feels strongly should not represent Assyrians, then I would encourage you to vote for the slate, but for another candidate.
Slate #389 - this is the Assyrian Democratic Movement. They have ten candidates. One can choose from any of the ten.
Slate #390 - this is the Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Popular Council. Please note, that these candidates are members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. There seems to be some confusion, and people do not know that voting for these Assyrians is casting a vote directly for a KDP Member. The Kurdistan Democratic Party and Massoud Barzani are openly supporting this slate.
Slate #391 - The Chaldean Council. Hikmat David Elias Hakim, the primary candidate, is a card-carrying Kurdistan Democratic Party member. He has not given up his membership.
Slate #392 - The National Ur List. Ablahad Efrem Sawa Hanna is still a card carrying Kurdistan Democratic Party member. Indeed, today, he has written an op-ed in ankawa.com, asking Massoud Barzani to be fair to the other Christian lists and not support Slate 390 so publicly (The Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Popular Council, which the KDP created).
Please understand: slates 390-392 are all actually KDP members, even if they are Assyrians (or Chaldeans, if they prefer). Voting for them is giving KDP members OUR 5 SEATS in the Iraqi Parliament.
It is up to each individual to decide who they will vote for - but make no mistake that the above slates 390-392 are current, card-carrying members of the KDP. Their Secretary General is Massoud Barzani. It would be better to vote directly for the KDP. If there is no party you feel comfortable voting for, then please, don't vote.
I urge everyone to vote their conscience. We only have 5 seats. The Kurdistan Democratic Party has plenty. There is no reason to give them more of what they have already taken from us.
