Good song for a good Assyrian man working as minister in the Kurdish government; but, helping our people enormously.  This cause is truly worth singing for.

God bless our Assyrian people that remain living to preserve our forefather?s homeland, history, language, religion, and culture.

:wavetowel: :giggle:

Off course; because, you are so jealous!  What if the song was for the party that you support most likely because of your family or your tribal affiliation?

Our people in northern Iraq in many thousands have come out on TV and via letters, phone calls, and people visiting them to thank this person for what he has done and is doing for our people.  Remember, he is an Assyrian working with the Kurdish government just like your two highly paid & silent members of the Kurdish parliament.  Our people are tired of the failed policy of your diminishing party due to its lies, theft, and deception.

Mr. Sarkis Aghajan & Johny Talia    :yourock:

No matter how many angles I look at this from, it still doesn't make sense to me why this singer would sing this for Sargis Aghajan :yucky: I don't get it.

On a related subject, I honestly don't think he's a traitor though (Sargis I mean).  If we're surrounded by Americans we have to work with them - theres no escaping them, and if our people back home are surrounded by Kurds, they have to do the same.  The other choice is being by ourselves and thumping our chests about 'Assyria' and getting nowhere.  Although I dont trust Kurds.

I'm more baffled by this singer though, to think I used to listen to his songs.  Shame on me. :nea:

Just what makes a person a traitor exactly? I love how some Assyrians label someone a traiter just because that one person is working with Kurds or Arabs.....

The way I see it people seem to call someone a traitor if he's not working for their favoured political party, guys let's get a grip, there's no traitors here, from what I understand we have some Assyrians working under the Kurds but I would'nt call them traitors because they happen to be in that position and they still call themselves Assyrians at least.

Someone could argue that these Assyrians are being brainwashed by Kurds, that's fine, but to call them traitors because they're being brainwashed is plain retarded, if this was the case then I could put this label on half of the heros we look up to in our past history.

Yes, working FOR the Kurds, that does not mean he's a traitor, brainwashed maybe and sadly almost our entire nation is probably brainwashed from different directions.

If working for a group of people that have historically (and to this day) killed, mistreated, harassed, betrayed, underminded and misprepresented your nation is NOT your definition of a traitor, then what is?!

Let me break it down for some of you.

Research and find out what the Kurds are capable of doing to Assyrians.
Read what they did to our nation in history. Read what they are doing to us now.

Now how can you not call someone who works for the enemy a Kurd?

Little summary

Kurds = Enemy
Sargis works for the Enemy
Sarigis is a Assyrian
Hence Sargis= traitor

Refer to the meaning of traitor below

Traitor:
One who betrays one's country, a cause, or a trust, especially one who commits treason.
a person who says one thing and does another.
1. a person who betrays another, a cause, or any trust. ?
2. a person who commits treason by betraying his or her country

Could be brainwashed, and if he is brainwashed then he could not be a traitor since he does't know any better....

Unlike us we're talking about a person who's living in a sea filled with Kurds, in other words it's a place controlled by Kurds, sure it's easy for you guys to label the term traitor so easily and damn every Assyrian who works with Kurds, but this is because you're sitting leg by leg in a western country that gives you the freedom of speech, sure, what do you have to worry about, it's only your people that are suffering, you expect Assyrians back home to cut hands from their neighbours who have done them harm in the past and if they work with them they turn out to be traitors, yet you don't realize that working with Kurds makes some of them live a better life in their native homes.

This is true hypocrisy I tell you, if you guys wanna be true Assyrian patriots then move back home and start a campain that says "Every Assyrian that works with a Kurd is a traitor", maybe if you switched shoes with those living in those Kurdish areas you'd understand better, ever thought about it that way? in a western country, I doubt you have....

Let me break it down for some of you.

First of all I'm aware of what the Kurds have done in the past and I'm well aware of they are capable of doing today as well, but one must realize that history is history, whether we like it or not we have to learn how to deal with them and live with them since they will be there beisde us whether we like it or not, not to mention that we claim to be Assyrians, I think when Assyrians are talked about in history one of the main thing that stands out is their ancient cruelty, so it's best to leave history aside.

Look, I'm not too fond of Kurds nor do I trust them, but I am a realistic person and I feel that getting a land out of Kurds would be a lot easier then getting it out of Arabs or Turks, I can sit here and mention many reasons on why Kurds would be more willing to give us a peice of land then the others, but since you seem to be stuck in the year 1850 I don't think I should bother.

Ok this has gone long enough for me not to respond.

Xpander,

you say this in your last line:

...I am a realistic person and I feel that getting a land out of Kurds would be a lot easier then getting it out of Arabs or Turks, I can sit here and mention many reasons on why Kurds would be more willing to give us a peice of land then the others...

I would like to know the reasons why the Kurds are more willing to give up what they've been fighting for and losing thousands of people for.

Dont be fooled. You're bright with your responses you bring up some facts and thats great, but you need to look at it from every angle. Why would the Kurds be so willing to give us an autonomus region in Kurdistan and is this truely in the best interest of Assyrians?

To answer that lets think realistically here. If the Ninveh Plaines becomes a part of Kurdistan, that increases the Kurdistan border to cover our region. Granted, they've now made a province/administrative region in Kurdistan, but we still fall under the authority of the Kurdish government.

This expansion of their border is EXACTLY what we are trying to prevent. To me, I could care less if Kurdistan is formed. My fear is the loss of those lands that we STILL occupy (we'll never get back everything) and to preserve that as Assyria. In the end, we all will become KURDISH and then the Kurdification will take its toll on our people.

Our best bet, to answer the second part of that question, is NOT to join a Kurdistan government but rather, focus on our own lands and our own resources. Working with the OTHER minorities to form a larger coalition to tackle the Kurdification of the people of Assyria. This includes Yazidi's, Shabak, and Turkomen minorities.

Once again, dont be fooled by the Kurd. He'll give you everything you can imagine off, then gradually eliminate you. They're rich, they're powerful, and they're plentyful. Simply put, don't sell your soul to the devil.

--------------------------------

In Sarkis Aghajan's case, how can a man work for the same people that nearly wiped out an entire group of people and still deny it to this day?

Thats like me agreeing to work for the man who killed my family (rikha min dana dookaneh). Its unfathomable. He's a traitor for this very reason.

In fact, SELL OUT would be a better discriptive word. He and his father sold their culture and people for their own self glorification and self pride.

To be very honest with you at this very moment I can care less if we have an Assyrian country or not, what's more important for me is that the people back home not to suffer, you and I are not worthy to ask for an Assyrian land because you and I are sitting in western countries that give us the freedom and decent life, it's those who live in our native lands that are worthy, but you know what, in a realistic world they're suffering, and the majority of them don't even care if they have a country or not because they just wanna live in peace and harmony in their own homes, that's what most people desire.

Sure, if our people back home can get a region separate from Kurds and Arabs that would be amazing, but can you honestly say that it will happen without them being attacked and harrassed all the time? do you think we have an army ready to stand against those Kurdish and Arab ones? let's be realistic, no we don't, so please come back from mars and let's talk about what goes on here on earth, I'm not fooled by the Kurd asd you say, I'm just simply realistic.

The only solution for us really is for those back home to feel as safe as possible with or without a separate region, the way I see it under Kurds there's a good chance they'll get a small division within the plain of Nineveh that we can build on, the Kurds while not to be trusted should be taken advanatge of, why? because they're a bunch who don't have a country and they also want a land, of course they cannot do it on their own so in order for them to show the world that they can tolerate other minorities (So they can get help) such thing under them is possible, under Arabs on the other hand it's not since they're more into Islam then Kurds and to them we're simple Kaffirs..

IF we have a division of our own where we can build on I suggest the Assyrians in the west to wake up and grow stronger because through them we can build a political future and have an influence to create a country out of the division we build on, remember that people back home don't really care for a country now, they care for peace and safety, if they can get that plus a division they can build on things will be easier and a future Assyria is more possible.

Think realistic and logical, put pride aside because that destroys people.

In Sarkis Aghajan's case, how can a man work for the same people that nearly wiped out an entire group of people and still deny it to this day?

Thats like me agreeing to work for the man who killed my family (rikha min dana dookaneh). Its unfathomable. He's a traitor for this very reason.

Personally I don't even know who this Sarkis man is, but unless he ordered hits on Assyrians or something similar I can't see him as a traitor, saying a guy is a traitor is like saying Mar Benyamin Shimon was also a traitor, for those who don't know it he also wanted to work with Kurds (Simko), even when Agha Petros himself said to him not to meet with him he still met and that got him killed, today we look up to Mar Shimon as a hero (I still do), but he still wanted to work with the Kurds because he saw a benefit from it, I guess by your terms he would be a traitor today.

Since you brought up Mar Shimoun, heres a nice read:

"On the 3rd day of March, 1918, the Patriarch sat in his carriage, and with a bodyguard of one hundred and fifty horseman started for the headquarters of the Kurdish chieftain, Simkoo. He went to assure the notorious brigands that he could remain absolutely certain of the peaceful attitude of the Assyrians, provided his own men indulged no longer in deeds of violence and lawlessness. But was not this noble, brave and Christian attitude of a great Patriarch equivalent to the giving of bread to the dogs and the casting of pearls before the swine? The news of Mar Shimon's departure preceded him; and before his arrival, the great assassin, who could hardly believe the report, stationed seven hundred of his best marksmen in concealed and commanding positions, with the order to shoot simultaneously at the sight of the Patriarch, when he emerged from the house of their chieftain after the visit. No servant could have received his master with a great honor. The Patriarch was escorted into the house. Two of his bodyguard accompanied him within. The others remained outside. The apparent absence of the Kurds from environs of their chieftain's residence took the Assyrians off their guard. In the course of the friendly interview between the Patriarch and The Kurdish chief, one of the men who had accompanied Mar Shimon into the house, noticed from the window the presence of the concealed Kurds on the surrounding roofs. Realizing the full import of the situation, the attendant said to the Patriarch, in Assyrian: " My Lord, our end is certain, permit me to kill this dog (Simkoo) just to avenge The blood that will surely be shed." The Patriarch, with an incredulous smile, bade his attendant be calm. "My Lord," repeated the Assyrian guard, "they will surely kill us all, let me kill this dog, perhaps we can save your life!" The Patriarch restrained his attendant again. He arose to depart, accompanied By Simko to the door. The later shook the hand of his guest, and went back into the house. And just as Mar Shimon was seated in his carriage, surrounded by his bodyguard, the seven hundred Kurds fired, all simultaneously, into the group of their unsuspecting victims. Only six of these men escaped, with wounds in their bodies, to give the news of the tragedy, and tell the story of the Patriarch's assassination. " (The Flickering Light of Asia. pp. 123-125).

-----------------------------------

Back to our case. I couldn't agree with you more that we want peace and stability first and that is the first thing the Assyrians back home want.

Heck, I want peace first and formost as well. Which is why I'm all for a unified Iraq. The fact remains, if I had a choice, I wouldn't have fled the middle east. But can I go back now? No. Its obsurd to think I could live in a predominantly Arab country. Who would abandon freedom and rights for a life of dictatorship and hardship?

It is that dictatorship and hardship that plauges our nation and our people today that has driven them out. It is that dictatorship that caused my dad to be arrested and eventually forced us to flee our nation. It is that hardship that hundreds of Assyrian children back home sleep hungry and in poverty.

We need to understand one thing, and one thing only.

NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU! NOBODY CARES ABOUT ME! NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE ASSYRIANS!

If WE can't care for ourselves, nobody EVER will. Which is PRECISCELY why we need to work for OUR OWN rights and for OUR OWN nation. "If THEY wont help, then WE'LL help ourselves." That should be our motto.

If we take under Kurdish authority and build on our own division, we loose our identity as Assyrians. Why? Well if we're under Kurdish authority, we abide by Kurdish law and are policed by the Kurdish police/military. We'll pay taxes to the Kurdish authority and any major project (ie mining, oil drilling, etc) would have to go through them, and chances are, they'd take the profits leaving our pockets high and dry.

The Kurds are not fools as most Assyrians paint them to be. They're allied with Isreal and have major powers behind them. We, well what the hell do we have? Do we even have an Assyrian school in Toronto?

Xpander, rest assured if there ever were an ASSYRIA, I would pay it a visit and possibly build a home. They would get all my tourisim money, and who knows, possibly live forever one day. But, as for today, there's no way such a thing would be possible.....realistically speaking.

If it's Assyrian existance you're worried about on the other side don't be, if our people back home had peace and safety our culture will always exist, we lived under Arabs, Kurds, Turks, Persians, Greeks, Romans, and so on for hundreds of years yet we remain who we are, don't worry about that, the thing you should worry about is for our people fleeing their native lands, the more they're harrased the more they'll leave, the more safety and peace they have the more they'll stay, and if they all leave there's no future Assyria, simple as that.

You got pay rise yet?

The reason why I dig the past is so that our generation knows what happened. If we forget about history then our stories will die and no one will ever know what happen to our people.

I will tell my children what happen to their family tree not to teach hate but to give them knowledge.

If we don?t think "Assyria" then no one will. But like you said you don?t care.

You can not break bread with a lion or live with a lion its physically impossible so a self administrated area is the only solution.

I truly believe we will have our day.

We do learn from history, but that does't mean because the Kurds have done us harm in history we must drop them and make them an enemy, this is not a political logical thing, if other nations would take your advice Israel should never give Assyrians a chance then, do you agree with that?

History has taught us NOT to trust Kurds, I agree with that, don't trust Kurds, Arabs, Turks, Brits, Americans, and so on, trust noone but yourself, the problem with what you guys suggest right now is you make it seem like we can govern ourselves without attacks, that's not going to happen because if we do govern ourselves others like Kurds and Arabs will attack, and why not? we are poor and weak, we have no army that compares to theirs, meaning we're a very easy prey, our people back home can't afford such attacks, do you ever wonder and worry about them? I don't think you do because you don't sound like it, you just want a peice of land called Assyria so other nations will notice your pride.

Why is it so hard to understand? Sarkis Aghajan and many like him are traitors, backstabbers, users, the list goes on and on.

Sarkis Aghajan isnt very nice either. Amo Baba, a famous Assyrian soccer player who played in the Iraqi league back in the 50's and 60s' was shown on Ashur TV and Iraqia Satelite channel. He spoke about how he now has diabetes and how they had to amputate his toes shareh. Well he mentioned he went to sarkis aghajan for some help with money to pay for surgery and sarkis aghajan said he wouldnt help him. So he was forced to get help from some Kurds. It was sad how he was telling his story.

Dont you know kurds are using our church leaders to preoccupy all of us with this church matter. They are building churches out of granite and marble, but you should see the water that comes out of there. Its filthy. Why do we need more churches, when you dont have clean drinking water, or any food to eat?? Whats a big, beautiful church for? We need schools man. Education!! We need to feed and clothe our people. Kurds know we're a target for our faith, and people are thanking them because they keep building churches, and of course they wont build schools, that would lead to our people getting educated. They definitely dont want that.

Were the kurds puppets, when will we stop relying on other people. We need to rely on ourselves. And how do we rely on ourselves when none of us can get a long as an omta, as ONE? Thats why every other nationality takes advantage. We are so behind.

That?s all i ever do worry about our people and if you knew me you wouldnt have my agenda. There is no personal gain for me for the rebirth of Assyria I will continue to live in Australia.

What you seem not to understand the critical situation we are in. They are attacking us with or without a nation so I believe a self administered area is vital for our survival. I don?t care if they don?t call that province "Assyria" just as long as they safe.

P/S Xpander please don?t ever question the love I have for my nationless people.
