I am sure you guys are seeing the same articles and posts online and specifically social media and how Argentina have virtually won the WC. I literally see FB friends celebrating the final step and that the WC is all but his and there is no way he will not be hosting it on Sunday.
I don’t know how to say this and I am not here to make any predictions - we don’t even know the opposition- but I have a feeling or I should say I wouldn’t be surprised if Argentina suffers the same fate as Brazil. In fact the pain for Argentina and Messi fans will be a lot worse and long lasting: This is Messi’s last attempt and he has never been closer. In 2014, Germany was a very strong opponent and the Argentine team wasn’t as good as now.
If Argentina fails to win it, it will be considered soccer’s biggest global funeral in history. Really, I don’t recall a superstar who was so cheered on and where millions of neutral fans wanted him to win. Like if Neymar is hurt after what happened last week, it will be nothing like what Messi will feel if they lose in Sunday, especially if it is a close game. To have played 5 WCs and reaching the final on your second one and still not winning it?
And you can bet that if they do lose, Messi will be all over social media sending his love to Messi and telling him he is still great despite the loss bla bla ….
Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens. I am sure Argentina as a team are not assuming anything like their fans, although i am sure they read the news and social media and see what is being written about them….
