I got an idea of...

Phenomenon

Building an English-to-Assyrian dictionary online. The thought is that the visitors/browsers of the website are going to develop the Assyrian translations of the english words.

I do have a database filled with the english words. With some programming, I could add functions to register users who are willing to join in the development.

Lets for instance say that you enter the website. You type the en english world "school". If you get en empty result, you will be able to add the assyrian translation of that word. It can also be possible to add several definitions of one word.

There will aso be a function for reporting incorrect words, so that the administrators will be able to remove them from the database.

The conditions of joining the development is to have the Assyrian language enabled in your winxp pro.

Sounds interesting ?

Sounds like an excellent project, the problem is you can't have people in general doing this, you need people who know the language well to develop a project like that so the result can be accurate.

What I'm thinking is you should use a physical Assyrian dictionary (A book) and transfer that data into the online database, then make this data availiable to the public of course via the keyword search as you pointed out, in fact I think peshitta.com has a similar idea going but they only show words that are found in the Bible.

Btw if you need help developing this I can help you with it since I'm a programmer, but it depends on my scheduale because work can be busy for me sometimes.

With visual studio & ms access, things go fast man. I'm too busy too but I'll try my best. I'm announcing it here when it's done.

good luck with that.. it sounds like an AWESOME idea.. and for people like me, who dont speak assyrian very well, it'll for sure benefit us... but u have to put all the assyrian words in an Urmi accent  :giggle:
