in regards to being educated,i am reminded of a story.
in ancient Athens, the oracle of Delphi (which is the equivalent of a prophet) proclaimed one day that Socrates was the Wisest man in Athens. Socrates could not what so ever believe this, what seemed to him "absurd" news from the all divinely inspired oracle of Delphi. So, Socrates sets himself out on a mission to go around Athens to see if the oracle of Delphi was right in her proclamation. subsequently, he goes around asking doctors, lawyers, craftsmen etc..he asked all different people of all different profession this question: who is the wisest in athens?
each person said that they are the wisest because they know everything about their respective field (example the doctor said he was the wisest because he knew everything about the human body, lawyer would say he was the wisest because he knew everything about the law and so forth).
after Socrates? long arduous research, he realized in the end that he in fact was the wisest man in Athens, why? because he was the only one who realized and was conscience of the fact that he knew NOTHING! while all others proclaimed they know all.
this story from the ancient Greeks makes two important points:
1) no matter who it is that makes a certain assertion (professor, priest, minister) always do your own research and come to your own objective conclusions
2) the more u read and learn more, the more u realize that u actully dont know that much.
3) its always a sign of being educated when one admits that they dont know something!
