I want to wish you all a very happy Akitu. I know today is also Friday and "yomit khisha" in the Christian calender but we can never forget our Assyrian culture!

I hope you all make the best out of the next 12 days!

May the year 6758 bring you all much love and hopefully a new country too...lol

Akitu is the ancient Assyrian celebration for "new year". It begins on the Spring solestace (can't spell) when they believed that life was created again. Basically when the days got longer. Its now known as the Assyrian New Year, Akitu, or Norooz (kurdish). Anyone else want to further elaborate on this?

Akito or Assyrian new year, in the ancient times they started celebrating on Mar21, a new year new life. The celebration lasted 11 days as it ends on April1 where the big procession of the Assyrian King takes a place. On April1s which is the last day of celebration the king himself participated in the celebration.

We say Norooz

but like its weird for us iranians coz we have that and then we have the assyrian new year then the iranian new year so its realli weird coz der all in the same week.

Nowruz is Persian/Kurdish for "new day".  Akitu is ours and it predates their nowruz celebrations.
 
True Nouroz is kurdish and Persian.
I saw Kurds and Persians celebrating Nouroz in my city. They were dancing with so much energy. SAW them from a distance. Spying as we Assyrians can say! he he  :ROFLMAO:
