I have learnt to do this last 3 years, with any increase I get at my job.
Instead of thinking how much of my extra pay should I allocate to saving and spending, first thing I usually prioritize is to increase my monthly donations to charities. Even if I can increase what I give by $10 a month on an annual basis, then I consider it a success, than to waste it on eating out, buying junk I don’t need etc.
