Gaggi vs. Bubkey

I don't want to make it sound like a competetion between the two, but this is more of a discussion about these two rising stars.

Although Gaggi has already released 2 or 3 albums, Bubkey just released his first.

But in general, I can easily see the future of Assyrian music with these two young artists. They are not just singers, but they are also musicians.

You have the legends in our music including Sargon, Ashur, Walter, Linda, Evin etc.

Then you have the excellent and already established like Johnny, Tony, Julie, Talal, Hadel, Lazar, Bulbul etc.

And then you have the rising young stars, who are making great use of the internet to get to their fans, like Gaggi, Bubkey, Vera, Sonya etc.

And of course, they both came up with two excellent albums recently, and I urge everyone to buy them please (Gaggi is available on iTunes and Amazon also)

What do you guys think? what are the similarities and differences between the two?

The beauty in the new talents that released their debut albums in 08/09 is the high quality of the albums and the fact that these young people worked hard to present a work of art rather than just a compilation of khigga songs as most singers today. I'm specifically talking about, in order of album release date, Vera, Sonia, Bubkey and finally Gaggi. These people deserve to be called artists. Of course, the very impressive Talal is part of this elite group however I didn't include him since his last album was his 3rd.

As for Bubkey vs Gaggi. I believe the 2 are very different. Bubkey seems to have adopted a classical style with a strong focus on the music and arrangement of his songs. Gaggi's style is quite different, synthesised music and sometimes westernised beats make his style more of a dance/party one.

Artistically, Bubkey's album is a lot stronger. The live instruments and arrangement is arguably the best in any Assyrian album to date. His voice is also slightly more expressive. Having said that, Gaggi is also a breathe of fresh air with his different style and approach, he also have a very good voice.

Bubkey and Sonia....definately up and coming stars. I don't have much knowledge about the rest.

Established stars: Ninos David and Talal Graish

Retirement time: Janan Sawa (sorry Khas), Sargon Gabriel

I just bought Gaggi's album from iTunes directly to my iPhone.

Feels great to be able to buy Assyrian albums from iTunes, and even cheaper.

Please support all our Assyrian singers. I believe the future is not that bad after all, and pretty hopeful actually :)

Let's see if we can get Ramsen Sheeno, Talal Graish, Tony Gabriel, etc. to get their music on Itunes. Ramsen's new CD "Dushela" should definitely be on Itunes.

I mean come one if Edmond who's 50+ years old has music on Itunes, they definitely should as well.

So come on people get on it!

Jon, Ramsen's Sheeno is my next CD I am buying. I don't think we have it locally yet, but hopefully it will be on iTunes too.

It is amazing how simple this purchase was: while watching TV, it took 4 minutes for the whole thing to download, and that was it! And it only cost me $9.99 for the whole album.

AMAZING

I have written extensively about the topic of Assyrian music and its future, and it is great to see some of the things I talked about, are starting to happen.

I am starting to believe again! But we need people's help of course to keep it going. BUY BUY BUY
