The Fast of Nineveh (Baoutha d- will start tomorrow through Feb 12.

God bless all those fasting. And to those who will do the full fasting (no food or drinks for three days), God help you even more, that is really tough.

The three day fast of Nineveh commemorates the three days that Prophet Jonah spent inside the fish (for the story, see the Book of Jonah in the Old Testament. That is when god sent him to the Assyrians in their city of Nineveh, to ask them to repent and be forgiven.

-You fast for three days from all meat and dairy products. And you can't eat anything at all till 12:00 PM everyday. Some people go the full 3 days without eating anything (not even water) . This is called 'Mabyouthe'

There is also a belief/myth that for any that has gone three days without eating/drinking, on the first day after fasting is over, if she was to see a man giving her water in her dream, that is the man she will get married to.

Noooooo. It would have been fun to have told this to my girlfriend before it began, she would undoubtedly attempt to do it...
