Couple of cool stats I came across about Brazil specifically and other teams in general, so far through all games played (56 games played so far or just over half of the 104 that will be played)
-Since Brazil will be facing Japan, they have one of the best disciplinary records with just one yellow card (no surprise) . Only Norway, Senegal and France (all from the same group!) have less with 0 yellow cards. So if anything, this helps Brazil play its game and not worry about a physical opposition or injuries etc. On the other end, Brazil has relatively high number of yellow cards with 5 (three countries have 7 and one has 6) . So they have to be a little careful and who you choose to play: it doesn't help that Fabinho has a yellow, which may mean a role for Ederson, as I am not sure Casemiro can keep up with the speedy Japanese.
-It almost went unnoticed but Guimaraes is tied for top of the assist leader board with 3 assists (with two other players) .
-Something that also went unnoticed, or at least I didn't see anyone here bring it up: Through 3 games, Vinicius already has 4 goals and 1 assist, which already matched Neymar's best WC performance (2014) when he had 4 goals and 1 assist in 5 matches (technically he didn't finish the QF against Colombia, but he also played 120 minutes in the second round match against Chile (won on PKs) . In 20218 , in 5 total games, he had 2 goals and 2 assists, while in 2022 he had 2 goals and 1 assists in 3 appearances.
-We weren't making things up when we kept mentioning last 2 games that Brazil has been wasteful: so far, they have an "Attempts on Goal Conversion Rate (%)" of 18%. Norway has the best at 29%. In comparison , Argentina and France are close at 23 and 20% respectively.
-Brazil is 4th overall in xG at 6.19. Only Germany, Canada and Switzerland are ahead. While in terms of xG efficiency , Brazil is in 25th position with 1.12x
-Brazil has 49% possession overall, while in terms of passing accuracy, they are at 90% (ranked 4th), with countries like Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and Argentina ahead.
-Brazil is one of the top 5 teams caught offside (9 times)
-Brazil is the 30th fastest team at average speed of 5.98 KM/H. Germany is top at 6.37, while Argentina, Qatar and Colombia round out the bottom (slowest teams)
-In terms of Ball Recovery Time, Spain was top with 19.11 seconds, followed by Portugal at 22.69 seconds. Surprisingly, Brazil did poorly here, ranking bottom 8, needing close to 55 seconds to recover the ball. Tunisia and Scotland were bottom with close to 70 seconds needed to recover the ball.
-Gabriel Magalhaes and Marquinhos are in the top 6 of player distribution (passes) with 260 and 245 respectively.
-Bruno Guimaraes is second overall in forced turnovers with 32. He also happens to be the only Brazilian in the top 100 players with the highest speed (Km/h)
-And finally, there was this really cool stat of total distance (in meters) covered by each team collectively: USA and Germany were top with about ~360K (360 KM) while Argentina and Colombia were at the bottom with around 212K.
Overall, there are not many categories where Brazil or a specific Brazilian player were top - or bottom (worst) . Generally, Brazil was often middle of the pack or top 20% in most categories.
