A Straight Forward Question: Is Drinking a Sin? Is it forbidden in Christianity? Should Christians completely cut out any drinking habits as it might affect their own Salvation?
Before Answering all these questions, we need to address some of the most popular myths that have been going around for centuries:
? Drinking is Evil and Sinful. The bible says so
? The Church strongly condemns drinking and forbids any of its members to drink
? If you Drink, then you can not be a Christian but more of a hypocrite
? Drinking is a Serious Sin in which God will punish you greatly for it
? Its ok to Drink as long as you don?t over do it and get drunk
So then to get straight to the Answer of this topic: Is Drinking a Sin?
Answer: NO it is not. The bible never speaks of drinking alcohol as a Sin or a forbidden habit to do, HOWEVER and this is a big However, it is Drunkenness that is regarded as a GREAT SIN. The Bible Speaks very strongly against getting drunk and considers it as one of the biggest issues that faces mankind. Here are some of the most common verses that Speaks of this topic:
Ephesians 5:18 ? Do not be drunk with wine which will ruin you but be filled with the Spirit ?
Romans 13:12 ? Let us live in a right way, like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or get Drunk. ?
Proverbs 23:19 ? Listen my child and be wise. Keep your mind on what is right. Don?t drink too much Wine or eat too much food ?
Drinking in moderation is permissible in the Bible. The Apostle Paul instructs one of his students to ? Drink a little Wine ? for health reasons. We also see in John 2:9 the First Miracle that Jesus Performed in which he turned Water into Wine.
Speaking of The Lord Jesus Christ, We even see a more revealing scripture which shows that even Jesus himself enjoyed dinning in with a bit of Wine with his Food.
Luke 7:33 ? For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine and you say ? he has a demon?. The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say ? here is a glutton and a drunkard ?.
Every Christian must decide for themselves whether to drink or not. Whilst Drinking is permissible, is it beneficial for Christians to do? Here are a few Guidelines which will help you decide if drinking is for you or not:
? Is Drinking beneficial to you? Do you have a problem controlling your drinking habits? Does Drinking often lead you to drunkenness? Are you brave enough to admit that you have an addiction to drinking?
If you Answered YES to any of the above, then you must do all you can to combat Drinking and stop it all together, as not only it is harmful physically, emotionally and mentally to you, But also it will totally destruct your Spiritual life and stop you from living a Christian life that God expects of you. 1 Cor 6:12 ? Everything is permissible for me but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me but I will not be mastered by anything. ?
? Do any of your brothers at Church have a problem with Drinking? If so, always avoid drinking in front of them or when having social gatherings. Sometimes, we might feel that its OK for us to have one or two drinks, but we forget our brothers and friends who might be tempted and fail to control themselves. The bible says:
Romans 14:21 ? It is better not to eat meat or Drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall ?.
Philippians 2:4 ? Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also the interests of others?.
? As a Christian, everything you do in life should be for the GLORY of GOD, even when drinking. The bible says:
1 Cor 10:31 ? So Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God ?

1 Cor 6:19 ? Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from GOD? You are not your own, you were bought for a price.Therefore honour God with your Body ?.
Do we need to drink to feed our Bodies? NO we don?t. Our bodies need Spiritual Drinks, not alcoholic ones.
