Does anyone knows anything of Mar Bisho, mar Bishnaya?

The internet and the forums are becoming mome and more important in ethnographic studies. The networks available are huge and the information is shared constantly and directly between peers.

The Mar Bishu people (part of a wider tribe) left Mar Bisho to Urmia from 1915-1920, earlier migrations occured also but where not drastic. Many of them left to the US some years earlier.

Ask your parents, grandparents about info. if they have ever heard of Mar Bisho or Bishnaya.

Here is a collage from Innanamagazine... I am not sure how accurate the information on the church pictured below. Is it really in Iraq?? There is no way to contact Inanamagazine, info@ does not work, I could not find out who wrote this.

There is one Village, at Khabour...beside 34 other Assyrian Villages, called Mar Bishu...., unfortunataly I dont know anything about "Mar Bishu"....

Hi,

Thanks for your response and your help. Mar Bisho, northwest of Hassake, is tall shamiram. This is where the people that left Mar Bisho Hakkari went. I am looking for that original Hakkari one.

The disappointing part is the people from Mar Bisho (tell shamiram) don't know much about it. Some do know scarce info.

thank you again,
Sam

Shlama,

I recommend you to contact Mr N. Al Jeloo from Sydney. He has been there recently and he has an amazing knowledge of the different villages, tribes and locations.

If you need his contact info, please e mail me ( ashuroyo@yahoo.com)

best wishes

Hi all,

Here are some updates on the subject.

There are too many mistakes on the collage shown up from Innanamagazine.

First error. The wrong matching link made between Mar Bishoi (4th century Coptic monk) and the Mar B'hesho (8th century Nestorian monk).

Secondly, the images of the ruined monastery is in fact not in Northern modern Iraq, but in the Eastern part of the Hakkari region (that is in South-Eastern Turkey)

Some more to come laters.
