Death: A Taboo within Humanity

Since the very first day of life, Death has always been a Taboo subject that no one likes to talk about nor think about.....

We all know that Death is a natural event, something that we all expect and science confirms that it is a natural process that no one can doge or alter....

Yet despite all that, Death Still counts today as the Most Feared event of a human life. It is a Taboo. People are terrified of dying & anyone that has a near death experience will tell you how hard they fought to stay alive....Death scares us, it puts a negative & sad thoughts into our brains. it makes us depressed.

The Fear of Death is a lot bigger that the Fear of GOD.

My Question that i propose to you is this " If Death is such a normal & Natural event that we all are expected to go through, then Why do Humanity Fear it so much? why is it the biggest Taboo of a human life? "

Looking forward to seeing your Answers!!!!!

I am scared of death, even though I'm young and that I know death is natural. On the day I die, I want to achieve many things like have children to carry on my genetics, I want to see Ator on the map, and have my children get married and that I see my grandchildren before I die, then I would have a happy death. Plus ever noticed how when someone is dying, they act more peaceful and nicer than they usually are?

We all share some of these feelings and reactions. The Question is, WHY? why are we scared of Death?

is it as you said because we want to achieve our dreams and goals before death catches us?

There is a lot more to it...

I'm not really scared at all of death, mainly because I'm young, but if I was ever to be scared it would be because it signifies the end of everything, meaning no after life.

Before I give my opinion on why people fear death. I need to express that there are diffrent people with diffrent attitudes. Besides that you have some people who live a "good life" with all material stuff, a nice job a loving family etc. and then you have some who live a very bad life, probably those people are less to fear death, since they might see it as a salavation to their poor, sad and hard life.

Now gettin to the question "WHY", I think many people cant imagine that once there will come a day where everything for them will go black i.e. their earthly life stops, they vanish and probably got forgotet by 99,9999999999999999999% of humanity. People would have a hard time to imagine not beeing alive, not enjoying life (since i am sure everyone of us has at least once thought "life is just wonderful").

I myself would also agree with Mrzurnaci, people dont want to think about the death now, especially not when they are young and are aiming to acheive stuff in their life (carrer, family, etc.). Besides that one has also a hard time to die in vain.

However, death is probably the end of once life on the earth, but I am sure we will not just vanish (the nothing). That though makes me then less afraid of death.

Good answers everyone... now let me share with you this finding... on this topic, I did a Survey of about 500 people & I asked the very same Question " Why do we fear Death since its natural ? ".

The people i asked were randomly chosen and a mixture of Christians at church, atheists, agnostics and Students at my university.

The Answers i got all had a combination of what has already been discussed, but the most common Answer that i got is this:

" The unknown Factor "

Humans are Scared to die because of the unknown factor. Not knowing what will happen to them after life. Some wonder, is there an afterlife? others wish that they come back to life again and re-new the cycle whilst Christians like myself truly believe in Eternal life.

BUT there is more to Death than all of the Answers we discovered so far. Something i came to conclusion after carefully studying the bible in search of some answers. I will share it with you shortly.

We as christians should not fear death and we should not have doubts of what will happen after it, even Jesus said it... I dont fear death at all, but i fear what feelings i will give to the people who love me and who I love (if i would die young or in vain), i know that i will se them once more but the fact knowing that they are probably going to miss me and feel sad, and that I had to leave them early (death by no natural way) is the hardest part. I hope that they will not feel sad because that is not the point of death...

personally im not scared of death, however im scared of someone else's, i freak out just of the thought that someone i know might loose their life.

but i do think, like you said, its the unknown.

Thank you everyone for your inputs  :yourock: :yourock:

Having already mentioned that " The unknown Factor " was the biggest reason behind people fearing Death, I turned to the bible in search of some answers, and I came to a very interesting conclusion which i truly believe in :

" Humanity Fears death so much because in every human being, there is an instinct that is planted in us from the day we are born. That Instinct acts the same way as a Sexual instinct. It is called the instinct of life. People fear death because they want to live and live, forever and forever. Humans were not created or designed to die, but rather to Live for eternity. "

For that reason, we always have a negative thought about dying and it becomes a Taboo in almost every society.....

Remember, The bible says " The body dies, but the Spirit lives on ".....

Death is feared because nobody can tell you what lies in store for you after you die...

people will tell you what they think or what they want to happen but it is upto you to make the judgement. People will always be scared of things they dont know or understand.

Do you know what's so cool about death? You're still alive.

We have two bodies. A tangible body which is our human body and an intangible body which is our soul.  Grab a peach and look at the seed (which really is a shell). Inside the shell is a seed, this is similar to our body. Our body is the shell and our soul is the seed.  It is your soul that lives on and your body is discarded.

I was watching a show called, "Cheating Death: Living Another Day". It's about doctors trying to figure out how to find more time to save someone's life on the operating table if the person is bleeding to death.  The study found that if you were to put the body in a hibernating state, the blood flow circulates slowly through the body giving doctors more time to operate and save a life.  Here's what I was thinking about:  Humans can extend their life by learning from animals who hibernate. Humans are so consumed with an active lifestyle that we overlook the energy being wasted.  A combination of poor health and work/life stress deteriorates our life span. If possible, we use little energy for three months out of the year, we'll live longer.

Now, in terms of death itself, there was this lady being interview on the show who experienced a heart attack and she said she left her body and was taken to this beautiful place where her body (which most likely is her soul) felt peaceful, there she saw her mother and ex husband.  She called out to them but they did not move.  She also said she didn't get to see Jesus because she was brought back to life.  What an experience.

Edit:

By the way, did you realize that when you visit a loved ones grave site, you are crying over bones?  The organs are removed from the body and maggots eat away the skin so the bones are left.  Isn't life amazing?
