SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Nov. 26) - Carrying rosary beads and cameras, the faithful have been coming in a steady stream to a church on the outskirts of Sacramento for a glimpse of what some are calling a miracle: A statue of the Virgin Mary they say has begun crying a substance that looks like blood.

It was first noticed more than a week ago, when a priest at the Vietnamese Catholic Martyrs Church spotted a stain on the statue's face and wiped it away. Before Mass on Nov. 20, people again noticed a reddish substance near the eyes of the white concrete statue outside the small church, said Ky Truong, 56, a parishioner.

Since then, Truong said he has been at the church day and night, so emotional he can't even work. He believes the tears are a sign.

"There's a big event in the future - earthquake, flood, a disease," Truong said. "We're very sad."

On Saturday, tables in front of the fenced-in statue were jammed with potted plants, bouquets of roses and candles. Some people prayed silently, while others sang hymns and hugged their children. An elderly woman in a wheelchair wept near the front of the crowd.

A red trail could be seen from the side of the statue's left eye to about halfway down the robe of concrete.

"I think that it's incredible. It's a miracle. Why is she doing it? Is it something bothering her?" asked Maria Vasquez, 35, who drove with her parents and three children from Stockton, about 50 miles south of Sacramento.

Thousands of such incidents are reported around the world each year, though many turn out to be hoaxes or natural phenomena.

The Diocese of Sacramento has so far not commented on the statue, and the two priests affiliated with the church did not return a telephone message Saturday.

The Rev. James Murphy, deacon of the diocese's mother church, the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, said church leaders are always skeptical at first.

"For people individually seeing things through the eyes of faith, something like this can be meaningful. As for whether it is supernatural or a miracle, normally these incidences are not. Miracles are possible, of course," Murphy said. "The bishop is just waiting and seeing what happens. They will be moving very slowly."

But seeing the statue in person left no doubt for Martin Operario, 60, who drove about 100 miles from Hayward. He took photos to show to family and friends.

"I don't know how to express what I'm feeling," Operario said. "Since religion is the mother of believing, then I believe."

Nuns Anna Bui and Rosa Hoang, members of the Salesian Sisters of San Francisco, also made the trek Saturday. Whether the weeping statue is declared a miracle or not, they said, it is already doing good by awakening people to the faith and reminding them to pray.

"It's a call for us to change ourselves, to love one another," Hoang said.

wow...there were so many this year.. i thikn when ppl say the end is nearing they're right..i don't think it's fake at all...i really believe in these things..and yea nenos there was a mary statue in michigan who's head was tilted more then it's suppose to be,belonged to a chaldean family :angel2:

We cant completely denounce occurances like these... its khteetha to fully believe in them and its khteetha to fully reject them. Fake or not, this is a sign for us to smarten up, be followers of God. Going to church and saying your a good christians means nothing, its all in your actions. what does it mean to u if u go to church on sunday morning after getting drunk and doing stupid things the night before?

all im saying is.. we have to be careful of what we hear but we shouldnt be too quick to judge. But if this is a sign.. God help us.

Says Who?

Can you prove that these things Arent coming directly from the Devil to decieve people into beleieving in status, idols, objects, people , all to divert the beleiiever from the real thing- Jesus Christ??

Jesus in Fact tells us in the bible, that there shall be no Signs or miracles for our Wicked Generations, NOT of that nature anyways.....

A Weeping Statue of Mary isnt waking up the beleievers, all its doing is making People start Worshiping The Virgin Mary, and praying to her, instead of ONLY concntrating on the one person who will Save you, and that is jesus Christ...

Senalko, this point is made by many Evangelists, but honestly, can you truly tell someone that praying to the Virgin Mary is bad, even though they know and believe the Lord Jesus Christ is their savior? I know that the Catholic faith holds her in great regard and that they believe she was without sin, but what about God's grace on her?

Senalko.. lets say for example, that it actually is a miracle. that mary is in fact crying tears of blood. radrides is just in his point that he makes.

this doesnt have to mean that we must only worship Mother Mary.. why is it so hard to believe that she might be weeping for us? it doesnt mean that we only worship her. but we do have prayers for her dont forget.

if it true or not.. this instance is still a push for many to grow closer to the church.

I love Jesus, i believe in Him. I also believe in the Virgin Mary and i do recite the "Hail Mary" but that doesnt turn me away from God.

and you cant ONLY concentrate on Jesus Christ.. its the Holy Trinity "in the name of the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT"

Let me ask you guys a simple question then based on your line of thinking.

Let's assume for just a moment, that Mary is trying to communicate through these statues and supposed appearances. Let's also assume that Mary can hear your prayers and is able to take them to God for us. By following your line of thinking, if Mary is truly this sad for us, and is able to communicate in this manner, then why doesn't she just appear to everyone jumping up and down telling us what she wants, rather than leaving it to interpretation??????? Seriously, think about it for a moment. You guys ascribe these magical powers to Mary, yet she isn't able to clearly communicate her point to us??

The truth is that these are either a hoax, or the work of Satan. The Bible itself tells us that occurances such as these will occur, and it also tells us they are not to be worshipped or considered Godly, as these occurances are.

One more thing. A challenge to all of you who do pray the Hail Mary. Please show me one Godly prayer in the entire Bible to anyone other than God.

Look as long and as hard as you like, but you won't find it.

1Ti 2:5-6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, (6) who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

Funny that I came across this topic..

Yesterday I was watching a video that was taken in Syria not to long ago?
A statue of marry with moving lips?
People couldn?t understand what she was saying because she was talking in an old language and I am not sure if they have interpreted what she was saying or not?

But let me tell you, it looked very real to see a statue lips moving! Could they have tampered with the video? Maybe so, could someone have been playing with my cousin?s eyes and everyone that was in that church? I doubt it.

Do I believe in these things? Maybe so depending on how real they look?
Do I believe that the reason Merry is giving us all these signs because she has a very soft heart for all of us on earth and so she is giving us such signs of sorrow and warning? Yes I do.

Now a question for everyone?

How do we know or believe the signs that God and Jesus give us? No one believed Jesus at first when he said he was son of God until he preformed miracles and few started to believe him! How do we believe signs of warning?
With the current advanced human mind, how will we believe Jesus when he comes the second time? I mean if anyone can come and perform miracles, it will be easy to believe. Who?s to believe whom?

Excellent question. The answer is that we have prophecy to validate Jesus. We also have prophecy to validate the supposed miracles that we see today, and those prophecies tell us they are not Godly.
