No controversy, just an article from a big Australian newspaper on Carmen Lazar, who has been instrumental in helping our people. She was principal of the Assyrian Diqlat School in Sydney, Australia and she has worked tirelessly getting the Australian government to increase its visa intake to 12,000 for Syrian & Iraqi refugees (a very large portion are Assyrian refugees).
She will be running for Fairfield City Council I believe and she truly deserves to be considered for mayor. She's been awarded the Order of Australia for her work in helping the Assyrian community.
Just by attending the Assyrian school as a kid, I would go on a Saturday and learn to read, write and speak Assyrian. She has worked very hard in supporting Assyrians and albeit sad that she is resigning, I hope she can get the mayoral position and hopefully it means more for the Assyrian community in Sydney.
