Canada 2010 - Very Well Put

This guy sounds like a douche.  He makes it sound as if Canada has been around before Christ.  Get a grip.  When you're country (made up of mostly Europeans/Asians) makes it to a thousand years, then you can talk about singing the national anthem in just English (the ones you pledge allegiance to).  I'd respect Canada more if they just had the anthem in French. lol

And yeah, Hockey Night broadcasting in Punjabi?! We know they set the precedent. :p  I was shocked to see that this past weekend.  Did the Leafs win? lol

I know plenty of the indigenous people of north America were killed viciously at the hands of white settlers, but I?d always thought their populations suffered most due to the exposure to foreign diseases that had been brought by European carriers and it?s mainly what wiped them out so quickly.

Yes and many of those that were wiped out by disease were done so intentionally.  The white man used smallpox as a weapon to eradicate the natives.

No they didn't.  The Frenchies beat them. LOL!!

I'm all for it.  If anything I hope they dub the entire event in hindi so I can hear what Don Cherry would sound like if his name was deepak.

Lool Robin, well said brother.

Yes peachy, if I wasn't from Canada, and I was to read this article, I would say the same thing. But their population is no bigger than that of the Italians, Chinese etc. Eena qam yawela patha raba, w hadya baye kharela gu Matha  ( as we say in Assyrian )

Bravo Liberals, you do a great job of stripping this country of it's identity. Shame on you!

The canadian identity, as it stands, is rooted in multiculturalism.  I think it's a load of crock, but maybe you can offer your insight on the actual canadian identity.  Can you also explain why your view is the right view?

No nationality is better than the other, either the anthem gets sung in all 300+ languages or let it remain English/French.

Multiculturalism may help in simplifying the complexity of the Canadian society, given all the hundreds of ethnicities and languages that exist here. But at the end of it all, something ties them all and that is called Canada.  In fact, to some Canada is not pure enough, given its ties to Britain, and would like to cut loose from them, if Canada is truly to become a real nation.

So yes, multiculturalism is nothing more than a myth or a nice marketing ploy by Canada to show they are an open society.

Why are my views right?I never stated that literally, but if I didn't believe my views were right or made sense, you think I would be wasting my time here? There are laws, legislations, and terms that people coming to this country have to abide by. These define what each Canadian is entitled to, and they also set the limits as to what the restrictions are.

So it is one thing for you to believe that Canada doesn't have a rooted identity to begin with, and quiet another to follow the laws as to what is allowed and what is not. The latter is what matters, not what you believe should be the case. For me it is both the belief and the law.

This Indian MP should stop with his silly demand, or be kicked out of office. He is clearly being more loyal to India than he is to Canada and if that is the case, go back buddy.

Nothing wrong with being loyal to your country of origin and your current new country, but rules of the new country have to be respected, clear and simple.

Otherwise, you are opening a can of worms, given all the hundreds if ethnities we have here. There is multiculturalism for you ultoma. Not everyone appreciated it. Some, like this guy, will try to exploit it.

What is next on his list of demands? Put the Indian flag infront of the Parliament in Ottawa?

So this one's back, eh?

Let anyone they want translate and sing the anthem into any language they want.  Only French and English will remain the official anthems though.  Translating it doesn't take anything away from the originals, it only enhances participation in the multicultural fabric of the country by other ethnic groups, which is a good thing for any country.

I mentioned that i think multiculturalism is a load of crock in my previous post.  I do not agree with it.  Also, i don't think canada has an established identity that most canadians would agree too, especially those that are non-white.

I believe Ashoor will have no problem with this if Indians/Pakistanis become a majority in Canada, right Ashoor?

Population:

32.2% "Canadian" (What is a Canadian other than the people below with some document or another anyway? Its a fake thing.)
21.0% English
15.8% French
15.1% Scottish
13.9% Irish
10.2% German
4.6% Italian
4.0% South Asian
3.9% Chinese
3.9% Ukrainian
3.8% Aboriginal
3.3% Dutch
3.2% Polish

Peachy the only people who live in our three territories here are aboriginals. To cold for the rest of us.
Indians don't make up a lot of our population in Canada as a whole but in Toronto that's a whole other story. lol

I thought the Aboriginals were in Australia only, unless you call your native indians aboriginals too

Dalida said:
Yes we do call them aboriginals as well.

Copy-cats.  :)

In my opinion,  well, I really don't have one on this subject really.  I think its a non-issue unless they want to really make the third official language Hindi.

Also, I thought they never really sing the national anthem at the Olympics?  I remember they just play the musical part.
