I read this in my english class once. Apparently its supposed to motivate your mind and make you think.....it just drove me to insanity :blink:

"If at every instant we're not moving, how do we move?"

Take a picture for example. Its a moment in time. An INSTANT! We're not moving at that instant. If at every instant or moment of time, we are not moving like in that picture, how do we then move? :blink:

Simple.

Because motion is measured by the change in relative position in any given time period. Therefore without any change in relative position or without time, there is no motion.

Ahhh, physics to my ears. Exactly! Even in one instant, we are in motion. Even if you don?t think you?re moving, any form of matter (ultimately atoms and combinations of atoms (molecules) is in constant motion. You can divide time over and over and over gain, and get down to picoseconds (incredibly small measurement of time), and we're still in motion based on "change in position" ? which is distance! Wow, Dr. Udo would be proud...  :angelnot:
 
Well, you say English, but it sounds more like philosophy to me. Either way, that specific quote is inaccurate (scientifically) and I think it's one of those sayings that is meant to make you "think" but there is no real answer or conclusion you should reach.

Oh, and don't diss physics! I love English, hey, that's much more my specialty than most sciences, but physics is what makes the world go 'round...? :giggle:

Curious, where does that line even come from? Like, what text/reading? It doesn't sound familiar, nor can I remember even hearing a variation of it.
