I am reading that it is now official and Benzema is out of the WC, due to an injury he picked up during team training. After all, he was already recovering from an injury with Real Madrid.
Though I still think France is deep enough to withstand his absence, I feel so bad for him, to have come this close and still miss the chance.
Out of 4 world cups, he has been injured in one (2022) and omitted from two others (2010 and 2018) and only played in one (2014).
This bring me back to a point I always make about Messi and CR7 and their amazing longevity: they have never missed any WC, Euro or Copa, and about to play in their 5th WC. I would praise these two players for their legendary longevity first before praising them on their play and stats etc.
