Brazil have missed their chance to avenge their 7-1 loss to Germany!

Earlier I was looking at Germany’s roster from their loss in a friendly game to Poland and I noticed not a single name remains from the 2014 teams. And it makes sense since that was 9 years and 3 World Cups ago. Just like how Neymar is the only remaining player from our 2014 roster (assuming Thiago Silva will not play again).

This got me thinking that Brazil never got its revenge from Germany for that embarrassment, and yes I care a lot about getting one back from the Germans. Yea we beat them at two consecutive Olympics, but that was it. They were bad enough in last two WCs not to progress past the first round, so there was no way to play them at the WC .

Even if there is somehow a chance we play and beat them badly in 2026, it won’t be the same without the likes of Mueller and Neuer on that roster. I know we have much bigger problems than to avenge our most embarrassing loss in history, but I feel that would exorcise a lot of our demons at the WC.

The most heart breaking match in Australian history was when we lost to Iran in the World Cup qualifier in 1997 (for France98). We were leading 2-0 with 15 minutes left and a man named Azizi equalised for Iran and they went through on the away goals rule. Australians are obsessed with revenge for that match.

The bizarre part? Australia joined the Asian Confederation in 2006 and have played in 4 Asian Cups and 4 World Cup qualifying campaigns in the Asian Confederation and we have somehow avoided playing Iran. So since 1997, we have not played each other, even though we are all desperate for revenge.

I know how you feel man. Heart breaking matches like that are hard to ever get over.

That is amazing historical info Bani, I had no idea the two have mostly avoided each other for over 26 years now! The thing is, both have been making the world cup almost regularly last few times, so all is good for both nations lol.
