Bet Nahrain Democratic Party in Iraq today announced that it is not going to contest the 25th of July Kurdish Regional Government parliamentary and presidential election.

In its statement it argues that it does not want to fracture the Assyrian vote by competing against the other four Assyrian lists who are also vying for the 5 seats allocated to Assyrians in the parliament.

How do you think this will affect the overall Assyrian vote? Do you think the motivation to abandon contesting the election is more than benevolence towards the Assyrian vote?

I believe their decision will of course affect other Assyrians group, it would much better if all Assyrians hade one list, they could get more seats than only 5..
 
The Ishtar slate broke apart, which means all votes not going to the ADM would have been split between 3 or 4 groups.  I think they're trying to avoid embarassment.

But, to be nice, I'll assume benevolence and that they don't want to "split" the Assyrian vote, even though they've had no problems doing it before.
